Under new coach Panagiotis Dimperis, the Mariners have made an ideal start, first edging East Bengal with an all-Indian XI before dismantling South United 8-0 in their second outing. 

The latter victory also saw new signings Dejan Dražić and Rahul Bheke make their debuts, with Bheke marking his first appearance with a goal. Sahal Abdul Samad and Manvir Singh, however, stole the show, with Sahal providing three assists and Manvir completing a hat-trick. With two wins and a huge goal difference, Mohun Bagan are firmly in the driver's seat to top Group A, barring a major upset from CISF.

CISF Protectors Preview

CISF Protectors have nothing left to play for after their fate was sealed in the first week of the competition following heavy defeats, the last of which came against another Kolkata side, East Bengal. It was an absolute beating as the Torchbearers showed no mercy, dumping them out of the tournament with an eight-goal thrashing—five of which were scored in the second half. 

Unlike their game against South United, where they had 54% possession and 19 shot attempts, CISF managed just two attempts on goal with no real chances created. Psychologically, a defeat of such magnitude is hard to recover from, especially with only pride on the line.

​So far, they have conceded 10 goals without scoring any, a record worse than their previous appearance in the tournament. In that edition, they managed to score twice, conceded ten, and even secured a victory. While CISF still has reason to strive for a positive result here, facing Mohun Bagan—one of the most successful teams in Indian football—presents a monumental challenge.
