Comoros’ first-ever Arab Cup outing ended in disappointment, as they were outclassed by 11th-ranked Morocco and conceded three first-half goals. Their lone reply came via an own goal — the only moment they truly troubled the Atlas Lions. 

However, the second half did bring some positives  as Comoros saw 58% possession and fired nine attempts — but most lacked accuracy, and Morocco had already eased the tempo. Even so, that brief improvement is all they have to cling to, as the defeat now leaves Les Coelacantes needing at least a draw, if not a win, to stay alive in the tournament.

Comoros’ hopes in the second game may hinge on Zaia Amir and Ibroihim Youssuf stepping up. Youssuf managed two attempts against Morocco, with one blocked, while Amir created a big chance and delivered a key pass. They’ll need far more influence this time if Comoros are to stand a fighting chance.

But the Falcons showed their trademark resilience, restoring the lead through Saleh Al-Sehri to seal a well-earned win.

Thanks to their opening win, the Green Falcons are now primed to reach the knockout stage — something they couldn’t manage in 2021. A victory over Comoros would seal qualification, while even a draw keeps them well in the race. And facing a side ranked outside the FIFA top 100, Saudi Arabia will fully expect to take that next step.

Saudi’s evergreen talisman Salem Al-Dawsari — one of the nation’s all-time greats and their World Cup top scorer — was at the heart of everything again, assisting both goals and firing five attempts of his own. Once more, he’ll be the player the Falcons look to for inspiration.
