The Manipur leg of the competition comes to a close on Wednesday with Neroca FC taking on FC Raengdai in Group D. The two sides enter the finale with contrasting priorities. 

Raengdai have already secured a place in the knockouts and top spot, regardless of the result, giving them the luxury of rotating and resting key players. For Neroca, however, there is no such comfort as the winless side sits bottom of the group and must claim all three points to keep their qualification hopes alive.

For the second straight game, NEROCA FC struggled to find the net, but unlike their opener, they were punished at the other end in a 2-0 defeat. 

The result was harsh on the numbers, with NEROCA dominating possession (59%), registering 14 shots and putting seven on target. However, they failed to convert their chances, while their opponents made the most of two efforts on target.

It was another case of NEROCA’s wastefulness proving costly, leaving them winless after two games. They still have an outside chance of reaching the knockouts, but even a victory against FC Raengdai will not guarantee qualification.

FC Raengdai arrive full of confidence after securing a historic place in the Durand Cup 2026 knockouts on their debut. After edging past Indian Navy FT 1-0 in their opener, Raengdai survived a thrilling encounter against TRAU FC, eventually winning 4-3 after surrendering a 3-1 first-half lead. They remained clinical when it mattered, converting four of their eight shots on target.

Mridul Doley was once again the hero, following up his match-winning goal in the opener with a stunning hat-trick to take his tournament tally to four. With qualification already secured and NEROCA needing a win, Doley could find himself with plenty of opportunities to add to that tally in the final group game.

NEROCA FC head into this crucial fixture in a wretched run of form, winless in their last five games across competitions. Their biggest concern has been in front of goal, with the Manipur side failing to score in three of those outings while conceding in four. Add the pressure of needing a win—and potentially by a sizeable margin—and the challenge only gets tougher.

FC Raengdai, meanwhile, can play with freedom after already securing qualification. Given the contrasting form and pressure on NEROCA, Raengdai look well placed to avoid defeat, with a win or draw our preferred outcome.
