The second round of the MG Indian Super League (ISL) kicks off with Mohun Bagan travelling to Hyderabad to face Sporting Delhi on Friday. Both sides are looking to bounce back from opening-day defeats, although Sporting Delhi will take more positives from their performance, while Mohun Bagan have several concerns to address.

Nevertheless, the reigning champions will be confident of returning to winning ways, having enjoyed a strong record against their opponents before the latter’s rebranding. For Mohun Bagan, nothing less than three points will be the target.

Current Standings: SC Delhi and Mohun Bagan are currently 10th and 12th in the ISL points table with no points.

Head-to-head Record: As the rebranded version of Hyderabad FC, SC Delhi have played only one ISL match against Mohun Bagan, which unfortunately ended in defeat.

Sporting Club Delhi Preview

Sporting Delhi gave Bengaluru FC a real scare in their ISL opener, coming close to pulling off one of the season’s early upsets. Tomasz Tchorz’s side held a 2-1 lead well into the closing stages, thanks to an own goal and a first-half strike from Brazilian import Rodriguinho.

Their success was built on winning midfield duels and disrupting Bengaluru’s rhythm, but a series of substitutions from their opposition turned the tide in the final 20 minutes as Sporting eventually went down 3-2.

Despite the defeat, Tchorz deserves credit for keeping an experienced Bengaluru side at bay for much of the contest. However, Sporting face an injury concern ahead of their next fixture, with defender Nduka Junior forced off late in the opener. His availability remains uncertain.

SC Delhi Probable starting Lineup

Nora Fernandes (GK); Manoj Mohammad, Nduka Junior/Ashutosh Mehta, Duván Viáfara, Yanglem Sanatomba Singh, David Richard Ndayishimiye, Lalrinliana Hnamte, Mohammed Aimen, Juan Sebastián Peña, Rodriguinho, Carlos Fortes.

ATK Mohun Bagan Preview

Mohun Bagan endured a disappointing start to their ISL campaign, falling to a 1-0 defeat against NorthEast United after conceding a stoppage-time goal. The result was particularly frustrating given that the Mariners registered 25 shots compared to their opponents’ nine, yet struggled to turn their chances into goals.

They were also caught off guard by the Highlanders’ counter-attacks, exposing defensive vulnerabilities that head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis must address ahead of Friday’s clash.

Changes to the starting XI could be on the cards, with Miguel Figueira, Manvir Singh and Anirudh Thapa among the players who could come into contention. Suhail Ahmed Bhatt also deserves more minutes after making an impact off the bench, creating a scoring opportunity that struck the woodwork despite playing for just 13 minutes.

Mohun Bagan Probable starting Lineup

Vishal Kaith (GK); Asish Rai, Rahul Bheke, Alberto Rodriguez, Subhasish Bose, Deepak Tangri, Samir Zeljkovic, Manvir Singh, Miguel Figueira, Liston Colaco, Lee Erwin.

Mohun Bagan will be eager to make a statement after their disappointing opener, and the numbers suggest they have a good chance of bouncing back. The Mariners have won their last six matches against Sporting Delhi/Hyderabad FC across competitions, scoring in every game while conceding just twice.

They also won 2-1 in this fixture last season. Sporting Delhi, meanwhile, are winless in their last seven ISL matches, recording four defeats and three draws, while managing just one victory in their final six home league games last season. Given this contrasting record, Mohun Bagan look clear favourites to claim all three points.

The bookmakers share that view, pricing a Mohun Bagan win at 1.39, compared to 7.60 for Sporting Delhi, while a draw is valued at 4.00.

Mohun Bagan to win (2-1).
