The UP Yodha and Gujarat Fortune Giants are at crossroads in this tournament. The Yodha’s were doing well in the last fortnight and suddenly they encountered technical snags in their defence. They lost 4 games on the trot. The Gujarat Fortune Giants got themselves in a hopeless position only to make a grand comeback. They have upset a few big teams but continue their maverick journey in the season. They have become highly unpredictable which is a headache for the UP Yodha. The Yodha is placed 5th in the points table while the Fortune Giants have quietly climbed up to the 7th position after having spent most of the season at the bottom.  This will be an epic encounter as the Fortune Giants have been very emotional and aggressive in the last few games. The UP Yodha have faltered at crucial moments leading to their loss. The Yodha cannot afford to make any more mistakes as this will make their transit to the knock-out stage more difficult. U.P. Yoddha Preview

Currently placed 5th in the points table, the UP Yodha is a team that needs to keep up its intensity. They had a wonderful run earlier in the month as they combined well to beat top teams. Raider Surender Gill has emerged as their trump card with Pardeep Narwal and Shrikant Jadhav in supporting roles. The biggest technical snag has hit their defence.

Defender Sumit was unbeatable in the first half of the tournament. His lethal ankle holds from the left corner were very dangerous. He has executed 44 successful tackles in 18 games with 3 High 5’s. But he has seen a dip in his form in the last few games. Right corner captain Nitesh has also gone through a similar phase. This resulted in UP Yodha losing 4 games consecutively. They were lucky in their next as they beat the Telegu Titans in the dying moments of the game. They beat the Tamil Thalaiva in the next game which was equally tough. 

The Yodha has no issues in the raiding department. Surender Gill has earned 156 raid points from 114 successful raids. Pardeep Narwal has earned 94 raid points while Shrikant Jadhav has 57 raid points to his name. The Yodha’s have executed 301 successful team raids out of their 767 team raids.

The defence is their concern. The defenders were able to earn only 2 tackle points in the first half against the Tamil Thalaiva. They improved their hunting in the second half which helped them beat the Thalaiva by 2 points. They cannot take this risk against the maverick Fortune Giants who can exploit this very early.

Gujarat Giants Preview

Fortune Giants have had a mixed start to their campaign this season. They are currently no 7th in the points table with 49 points. They have become extremely unpredictable off late. They had a torrid time early in the season and then they were struck by Coivd. Post recovery they have smartly moved up the points table with some upsets and big wins. They have won 3 out of their last 5 games and follow a maverick pattern. They met the UP Yodha last year at the beginning of the year and they shared the honours with them with a TIE. The Fortune Giants have made a few changes in their approach. They have started playing faster and they have no issues accumulating points. Raider Pradeep Kumar has brought some spunk in their raiding and that has helped upset bigger teams. Raiders Pradeep and Ajay could not play the last game against the Telegu Titans but the Fortune Giants had the option of Rakesh Narwal, Rakesh and Mahendra Rajput.

It is the defence that needs to be consistent. Sunil Kumar and Parvesh Bhaiswal have started to play like old days. Left corner Girish Ernak has been their best defender in this season but he is prone to unforced errors. They are missing one aggressive defender which can bring a lot of sanity in their approach. They have a wonderful opportunity as they take on a vulnerable UP Yodha. If Gujarat Fortune Giants are able to win this game, they will become more dangerous as they will rekindle their hopes for the knock-out stage.

If we look at the current form of both teams, this match should end as a tie, considering the amount of unforced errors that UP and Gujarat have been delivering.  They shared the honours earlier in the season too. The UP Yodha looks a bit vulnerable but they have a better raiding and defensive combination. Surender Gill will be the key for the Yodha. Can Gill go for the Kill?? The Fortune Giants will expect raider Pradeep Kumar to be fully fit so that he can be unleashed on the Yodha’s. Fortune Giants have a lot of options in their raiding department but they need to careful with their unforced errors. Sunil Kumar and Girish Ernak will have to play a major role in hunting down Surender and Pardeep Narwal. Expect this game to go down the wire. Sparks will fly as these teams will make a desperate dash towards the finish line.
