Defending Champions Kolkata Knight Riders of IPL 2025 selected Ajinkya Rahane as the captain of the squad. The latest IPL season is about to roll out on March 3, and Rahane is all set for his second spell.
Rahane is about to lead the KKR squad while Venkatesh Iyer has been appointed Vice-Captain this season. KKR bought Iyer in the bid for INR 2.73 crore.

The Chief executive of KKR, Venky Mysore, stated that the franchise feels he is a smart and talented cricketer. His knowledge of the game and maturity as a captain will favor the team’s standing in the league.
- Venky Mysore also praised Iyer for his incredible leadership qualities as the KKR vice-captain. He believes that the duo will work well to restore the legacy of the KKR Title in IPL 2025.
- It is second stint for Rahane after 2022 in Kolkata Knight Riders franchise. Back then, he had a strike rate of 103.90 and managed to score 133 runs out of seven matches.
- After His poor performance in the KKR Squad, Ajinkya Rahane’s gameplay improved at CSK in the 2023 IPL season, when he scored 326 runs at a 172.48 strike rate.
- Again, in IPL 2024, Rahane’s graph witnessed a downfall. He wasn’t as productive but scored 242 runs at a 123.46 strike rate.
KKR are the Defending Champions of the IPL Tournament
Rahane’s past records are pretty decent. Under his captaincy, India won against Australia in the 2020-21 Test Series. He also holds many reputed domestic cricket titles and played for the Mumbai squad. His recent achievement was the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2024-25. Ajinkya scored the highest runs of his career in that tournament.
