Bangladesh name 15-man squad for first Test against Australia

Bangladesh have named their squad for the first Test against Australia, with the match set to start in Darwin on 13 August. The side will depart for Australia on 31 July.
Najmul Hossain Shanto will captain the team, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the vice-captain. The squad includes Soumya Sarkar, Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Amite Hasan, Jaker Ali Anik, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury and Musfik Hasan.
The series will carry ICC World Test Championship (2025-27) points. Australia, who won the title in 2023, have already named a squad for the series.
Soumya Sarkar’s return is a notable feature of the group, with Source B saying he last played in the format in 2021 and has 16 Tests under his belt. Bangladesh’s pace attack will rely on Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam will lead the spin department.
The second Test is scheduled for 22-26 August in Mackay.
