IPL AUCTIONS 2021 FINAL UPDATE

And SOLD!!! All cricket fans had their eyes glued to the most-awaited program in the cricket world on 18th February from 3 pm IST. As expected, the IPL Auction for 2021 hit everyone unexpectedly. Be it, Chris Morris who broke the record of getting the highest bid in the IPL history, or Krishnappa Gowtham who became the highest-paid uncapped Indian player, the IPL franchises caught the nerves of the fans throughout 5 hours.

Rajasthan Royals made history by signing Chris Morris for a whopping INR 16.25 crore ($2.2 million). Royal Challengers Bangalore kept their hype in the auction by getting New Zealand Pacer Kyle Jamieson for INR 15 Crore ($2.06 Million). Various new faces including Riley Meredith (INR 8 Crore, $1.1 Million), Shahrukh Khan (INR 5.25 Crore, $723k), and Chetan Sakaria (INR 1.2 Crore, $120k) made fans eyes frowned. Overall, IPL auctions lived up to their name. At TheTopBookies.com you will find the latest IPL betting tips on a daily basis once the tournament commences.

All the 8 franchises headed back to their hotel rooms with an intent to win this year’s IPL. Let’s find out how the auction actually panned out for each franchisee.

1) Punjab Kings: (Purse - INR 53.2 Cr., Purse at the end - INR 18.80 Cr.)

Punjab Kings went into the auction with the biggest purse. Instead of dominating the auctions, they got bullied in the initial phases of the auction. They did the same mistakes a gambler does by playing safe in Vegas. With the sole purpose of rebranding the team, Punjab Kings jumped in the auctions. They had only one all-rounder and a weak bowling department to improve for. Though they went heavily to land Chris Morris, they eventually lost him to Rajasthan Royals. The same thing happened with another all-rounder Shakib Al-Hasan. In order to save money, they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders easily.

Finally, they found their match with Moises Henriques for INR 4.2 Crore ($ 578k) to fill the void in the all-rounder department. They targeted Australian duo Jhye Richardson (INR 14 Cr, $1.93 Million) & Riley Meredith (INR 8 Crore, $1.1 Million) to strengthen the bowling department with Mohammed Shami. It was Punjab’s luck that they got the World’s number one batsman, David Malan for his base price of INR 1.5 crore ($ 207K). With a lot of money left, they outbid RCB for Tamilnadu bowling all-rounder Shah Rukh Khan (INR 5.25 Crore, $ 723k). They also signed Jalaj Saxena, Saurabh Kumar & Fabian Allen for their base prices to add options to the all-rounder department.

With 5 overseas players added, they yet missed adding an experienced backup for Mohammed Shami.

2) Royal Challengers Bangalore: (Purse - INR 35.7 Cr., Purse at the end - INR 35 Lakhs)

RCB reduced the workload of captain Virat Kohli & AB de Villiers by signing Australian all-rounder Glen Maxwell for INR 14.25 crore ($1.98 Million). This time they also tried to solve their bowling problems by signing Kyle Jamieson for INR 15 crore ($2.06 Million). In the latter stages, they outclassed KKR to buy Daniel Christian as insurance to Glen Maxwell. Except for these 3 big names, they emptied their purse to sign 5 uncapped Indian players.

Glen Maxwell, Kyle Jamieson, Daniel Christian, Mohammed Azharuddin, Rajat Patidar, Sachin Baby, K.S Bharat, Suyash Prabhudesai

3) Rajasthan Royals: (Purse - INR 34.85Cr., Purse at the end - INR 13.65 Cr.)

Rajasthan Royals needed someone to bring the balance after releasing Steve Smith before the auction. They found their solution in Chris Morris. The only problem was the opposition from RCB and Punjab Kings. They spent heavily (INR 16.25 crore) to get Morris. They spent INR 4.4 crore ($606 k) on Shivam Dube and brought back Liam Livingstone at his base price to solve their middle-order struggles.

To add spices in the bowling department, they took a risk on Saurashtrian pacer Chetan Sakariya and Bangladeshi left-arm bowler Mustafizur Rehman.

Players RR bought (8):

Chris Morris, Shivam Dube, Chetan Sakariya, Mustafizur Rehman, Liam Livingstone, Akash Singh, KC Kariappa, Kuldip Yadav.

10CRIC IPL 2021 Odds for RR to lift trophy: 10.00

4) Chennai Super Kings: (Purse - INR 22.9Cr., Purse at the end - INR 2.55 Cr.)

CSK launched an aggressive bid to sign Glen Maxwell. After losing him to RCB, they kept trying and trying to sign Moeen Ali for INR 7 crore ($964 k). This solved the off-spin issue they had in the 2020 season. They went further to land Krishnappa Gowtham for 9.25 crore ($1.27 million) to replace Kedar Jadhav in the middle-order. One class decision CSK took is by giving Cheteshwar Pujara his first IPL contract since 2014. Well, he deserved that respect.

Players CSK bought (6):

Moeen Ali, Krishnappa Gowtham, K. Bhagath Varma, Cheteshwar Pujara, C. Hari Nishanth, M Harisankar Reddy

10CRIC IPL 2021 Odds for CSK to lift trophy: 7.50

5) Mumbai Indians: (Purse - INR 15.35Cr., Purse at the end - INR 3.65 Cr.)

The IPL 2020 Champions went for the players as per the expectations. They bought back Nathan Coulter Nile for INR 5 crores ($688 k) along with ex MI players Piyush Chawla & Jimmy Neesham. As expected, they gave Arjun Tendulkar his first IPL contract for his base price of INR 20 lakhs. MI made sure in the auction that they have a backup for every player in case of any injury.

Nathan Coulter Nile, Piyush Chawla, Jimmy Neesham, Arjun Tendulkar, Yudhwir Charak, Adam Milne, Marco Jansen.

10CRIC IPL 2021 Odds for MI to lift trophy: 4.50

6) Delhi Capitals: (Purse - INR 12.9Cr., Purse at the end - INR 2.15 Cr.)

Delhi Capitals signed Umesh Yadav for his base price of INR 1 crore to team up with Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Ishant Sharma. They landed Steve Smith easily for INR 2.2 crore ($303 k). To everyone’s surprise, they bought Tom Curran for INR 5.35 crore ($737 k). In the last stage, they signed Sam billings to fill the spot of the wicket-keeper left voided after releasing Alex Carey.

Players DC bought (8):

Steve Smith, Tom Curran, Umesh Yadav, Sam Billings, Ripal Patel, Vishnu Vinod, M Siddharth, Lukman Meriwala.

10CRIC IPL 2021 Odds for DC to lift trophy: 5.50

7) Kolkata Knight Riders: (Purse - INR 10.85 Cr., Purse at the end - INR 3.20 Cr.)

KKR bought what they desired from the beginning - Shakib Al Hasan. After fighting Punjab Kings in the auction, they welcomed their ex-player Shakib for INR 3.2 crore ($440 k). Most of the KKR’s business was seen in the final stages of the auction where they signed Harbhajan Singh, Karun Nair, and Ben Cutting after they went unsold in the beginning.

Players KKR bought (8):

Shakib Al Hasan, Harbhajan Singh, Karun Nair, Ben Cutting, Pawan Negi, Vaibhav Arora, Sheldon Jackson, Venkatesh Iyer

10CRIC IPL 2021 Odds for KKR to lift trophy: 7.00

8) SunRisers Hyderabad: (Purse - INR 10.75 Cr., Purse at the end - INR 6.95 Cr.)

SRH had a lazy auction. After all, they only needed 3 players to fill their 25 men squad. They got a gem in Mujeeb-ur-Rehman. They signed Kedar Jadhav to strengthen their middle-order. This was more of insurance to their young guns if they don’t click.

Players SRH bought (3):

 Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, Kedar Jadhav, Jagadeesha Suchith

10CRIC IPL 2021 Odds for SRH to lift trophy: 7.00
