Pakistan to host New Zealand and South Africa in tri-series and questions remain over India travelling for Champions Trophy
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Friday, announced the schedule for the Pakistan cricket team's 2024-25 season. With an eye on the Champions Trophy, the PCB has organized an ODI tri-series in February, featuring New Zealand and South Africa. The four-match tournament will be hosted in Multan.
This will be Pakistan’s first ODI Tri-series in 21 years. The last time the Men in Green participated in an ODI Tri-Series was in 2002. Australia and Kenya were the other two teams participating in the series.
Notably, Multan and Rawalpindi will share the home matches between them as Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is set to go under redevelopment for the Champions Trophy.
“Karachi, Multan and Rawalpindi will share the seven Tests and four ODIs between them. The Gaddafi Stadium is currently undergoing redesign and redevelopment work as part of preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but is expected to be ready to stage most of the high-profile matches from Feb 19 to March 9. The ICC will announce further details of the Champions Trophy in due course,” said the PCB press release.
Pakistan to host Champions Trophy Amidst India’s Reluctance
After the conclusion of the tri-series, Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy 2025. However, doubts remain over Team India’s participation in the tournament, which is being held for the first time since 2017.
Notably, the Men in Blue have not travelled to Pakistan or played any bilateral series against the team due to their soured political relations. The BCCI is yet to make its stance clear on whether Team India will travel to Pakistan for the ICC event.
