After leading Team India to a historic T20 World Cup win, star Indian opener Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Men in Blue for the Champions Trophy and World Test Championship (WTC) Final, which will be played next year. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead the side in both ICC events.
“After the T20 World Cup win, the next target is to win the WTC final and the Champions Trophy. I have full confidence that under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, we will be champions in both the tournaments,” Shah said in a video message.
“This was our third final within a year. On June 11 last year, we lost the WTC final. On November 19, after winning 10 matches, we won hearts but failed to win the ODI World Cup. But as I had said earlier this year in Rajkot, India proceeded to win hearts and the World Cup under Rohit’s leadership,” the BCCI secretary added.
Will Team India Travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025?
While fans are excited to see Rohit Sharma lead the side in the upcoming ICC tournaments, it is still unclear whether India will travel to Pakistan to participate in the Champions Trophy. Notably, the ICC event is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February-March next year. With the growing political tension between both countries, it will be interesting to see if the Indian government will give the green light to Team India’s visit to the neighboring country..
Can India make it to the 2025 WTC Final
India is on track to make the final for the third consecutive season. They are currently at the top of the points table, with Australia second in the standings. The Men in Blue team will feature in three more Test series against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia before the WTC final. The men in blue will need to pass this three major test series in order to stay on top and qualify for the 2025 WTC Final at Lord's. The plan seems to be pretty clear from the BCCI and team management. Their next major stop is to win the test mace that has been eluding them for a long time now.
