Utter Dominance From Sri Lanka On Day 2

Utter Dominance From Sri Lanka On Day 2

Despite losing the toss on Wednesday morning at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo, Sri Lanka skipper Dhananjaya de Silva will be delighted with how the first two days have played out in the second and final Test versus Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka will resume on Friday morning with a lead of 43 runs and with eight wickets in hand as they look to post an imposing total in the second innings of the Test.

What happened on day two in Colombo

To put it bluntly, Sri Lanka turned up and Bangladesh didn't!

After ending day one on 220/8, the tourists were able to add only 27 further runs and then spent 78 overs in the field taking just two wickets.

Sri Lanka's top three contributed 279 runs and they could have finished in an even stronger position if Dinesh Chandimal had not been dismimssed for 93 with only three overs remaining.

Tipped in this column to do so after stumps on day one, opener Pathum Nissanka hit 18x fours and finished unbeaten on 146 not out.

He is in excellent form and will resume on Friday averaging 84.60 against Bangladesh in Test cricket!

What's to come on day three

If you like watching Sri Lanka bat or Bangladesh bowl then Friday could be your idea of heaven!

Taijul Islam was the most overused of the Bangladesh attack, sending down 32 overs and we can expect him to do a large amount of the bowling once again.

Mominul Haque bowled only one over on Thursday and conceded seven runs so it is unlikely that he will be used!

As for the Sri Lanka batters, there are plenty of strong run-scorers to come and of course Nissanka remains and he will be eyeing up his Test best score of 187 which he made in Galle last week.

Pathum Nissanka's Test Centuries
Year Opposition Score
2021 West Indies 103
2024 England 127*
2025 Bangladesh 146*
2025 Bangladesh 187

Recommended bets

Pathum Nissanka looked untroubled throughout Thursday and may well fancy racking up his first ever Test double-century.

  • The Bangladesh bowlers will be tired and 2.10 looks like a good price for the Sri Lankan opener to score over 201.5 runs.

Night-watchman Prabath Jayasuriya is at the crease with Nissanka and has a Test best score of 28 not out.

  • He begins day three on 5* but with the Bangladesh bowlers struggles, could he frustrate them for long enough to make his first Test half-century? He is priced at 7.50 to do so!
