After a promising start to the 2024-25 season where they won their first two games of the season the Atlanta Hawks have since gone on a downward spiral and haven’t won a single game in their last four fixtures as they sit in ninth place in the Eastern Conference at the time of writing. 

Having begun the season with a 120-116 win at the State Farm Arena against the Brooklyn Nets the Atlanta Hawks seemed to be in good form as they carried on that momentum in their second game of the season and defeated the Charlotte Hornets by 5-points which had many fans believing that the fortunes were finally starting to shift in the state of Georgia.

While the optimism was understandable the Hawks have since not won a single game with their first defeat of the season coming at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder who beat the Atlanta side by a 24-point margin in a game that Trae Young scored 24-points and had 8 assists. This defeat to the Western Conference leaders was then followed by back-to-back losses to the Washington Wizards to whom they lost to at home and away which took their record from a respectable 2-1 to a more tarnished 2-3.

 Despite the back-to-back losses to the capital team the Hawks then hosted the Sacramento Kings in their home ground and were expected to take the win but after a season high 31-point performance by DeAaron Fox, left the Hawks with four losses in a row as the Kings took the points home with a 123-115 win. 

Despite their unfortunate run of form there are many positives for the Hawks still especially with Trae Young continuing his fine form and averaging 27.7 points so far this season which puts him in the top 10 highest points earners this season.

While the Atlanta Hawks have been on a losing run at this point in time the reigning champions on the other hand have been taking the season by storm as they currently sit second in the Eastern Conference and are currently on a two-game winning run at the time of writing. 

With their current season record standing at 6 wins and 1 loss the Celtics have started the season as they mean to go on and look to be the team to beat once again as they are currently 1 game behind the Cleveland Cavaliers but have managed to score more points per game than the Ohio outfit. Despite their good scoring form the Celtics have been weaker defensively and has cost them a match with the absence of Kristaps Porzingis being a huge factor in this kerfuffle. 

Having started strongly with a win against the New York Knicks in their opening game they followed up this victory with two wins against the Washington Wizards and the Detroit Pistons respectively before dismantling the 2021 NBA champions the Milwaukee Bucks at TD Gardens to make it 4 wins out of 4 in their opening fixtures.

Although they looked like continuing this form and making it five wins in five their match against the Indiana Pacers turned out to be a frustrating one as they were defeated in a close game which was decided in overtime. Pascal Siakam’s 29-point masterclass ensured that the Pacers got their revenge on the Boston Celtics for sweeping them in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals as his three-pointer evened the tie in regular time before going onto overpower the Celtics in the extra period.

Despite this loss the Boston Celtics turned around their fortunes pretty quickly as a double fixture against the Charlotte Hornets bore them a similar luck to their first four games and they defeated the North Carolina side at their home court, scoring 124 and 113 points respectively in these two fixtures. Now hoping to make it three wins in three the Celtics will be riled up to get the win against the Hawks and should get the dub especially given the kind of form the two teams are currently in.
