Sitting at the bottom of the pile of the Eastern Conference with 1 win in 5 games the Detroit Pistons seem to be on course to have a similar season as last year as the team continues to spiral from its once glorious past and looks to be the side that everyone will like facing as they are yet to perform according to their expected standards. 

Despite the likes of Cade Cunningham, Tobias Harris, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Jaden Ivey all being a part of this team the Pistons are yet to fire their engines and are currently one of the worst teams in the NBA with only the Utah Jazz having a worse record in the entire league so far. 

Having started their season against last year’s Eastern Conference runners up in the Indiana Pacers the Pistons lost their first game by a score of 115-109 before traveling to Ohio and facing the current table toppers and only unbeaten side in the East in the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Losing by 12-points in Cleveland they then hosted the reigning champions at home and were once again defeated by double digits before an embarrassing 106-98 defeat in Florida meant they were without a win in their first four games of the season. 

While the expectations were already very low from the Detroit supporters there was a sense of renewed optimism during their away win to the Philadelphia 76ers but given that the Philly side were without stars Joel Embiid and Paul George their win also came under favorable circumstances to say the least.

 Despite this win at Philly the positivity didn’t last long as they were defeated at home by the New York Knicks by a score of 128-98. Now needing another win to kickstart their resurgence they Pistons will be hoping that they can achieve that within their next few games.

Los Angeles Lakers

While the Detroit Pistons have had a very tough start to the season the Los Angeles Lakers on the other hand have had a great start but have fallen off a little in their most recent match ups as they currently sit fourth in the Western Conference with a 4-2 record. 

Having started their season at home to the Minnesota Timberwolves the Lakers were determined to right their wrongs from last season as their first-round exit at the hands of the Denver Nuggets seemed to have left a sour taste in their mouths and they started their season with a redemptive attitude as they beat the Timberwolves with a final result that read 110-103.

 The Purple and Gold then followed up this performance with two other wins at home against the Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings leaving them on top of their division but their reign at the top didn’t last long as in their first away game of the season in Arizona they were beaten by the Suns who took their revenge on them in a space of three days and handed the Lakers their first defeat of the season. This loss was then followed by another at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers who welcomed the father-son duo of LeBron and Bronny James to Ohio for the first time with a 134-110 defeat.

Now brandishing a 3-2 record the Lakers hadn’t won away from home and needed to change that and they did just that against the Toronto Raptors as they beat them in a convincing 131-125 win in Ontario. Now facing the Detroit Pistons, the Lakers will be hopeful to grab their second away win of the season as they face a struggling Detroit side.
