Teams Preview

San Antonio Spurs

Wembanyama returned to go 27-11-7 on the night, was a plus-28, and was shooting 5-for-5 from the field and 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the second half alone. Fox delivered 28 points on 65% shooting with 7 assists, and Castle added 16 points and 8 assists. The Spurs went on a 62-23 run over 20 minutes after halftime one of the most dominant second-half stretches in this playoffs.

In a closeout game at home, this Spurs team is capable of a similarly dominant performance. Wembanyama's concussion is behind him and he said he was feeling great after Game 4. For Game 5, expect him in the 28-34 range — the full version of what he showed in Games 1 and 4 without the first-half rust of returning from protocol.

Fox can push 26-30 again; his second-half aggression in Game 4, 18 points after the break showed he knows how to take over when it matters. Castle's left hand was X-rayed in Game 4 after an injury and his status is worth monitoring, but Harper, Keldon Johnson, and the veteran bench depth give San Antonio enough options even if Castle is limited.

The Spurs on average, score 112 points per game, they score 47.1% from the field and are ranked 4th in the league, and 42.3% from the arc and are ranked 1st in the league. The Spurs grab 45 rebounds per game and ranked 7th in the season.

Portland Trail Blazers

Game 4 was a collapse that will haunt Portland all summer if they do not respond. Avdija had 26 points and Holiday contributed 20 with impressive defense, but Scoot Henderson went 0-for-7 from the field without scoring a single point.

Clingan shot 2-for-10 and Williams who had been dominant in Games 2 and 3 managed just 2-for-4 with six rebounds as Wembanyama's presence completely recalibrated every paint touch Portland attempted. They led by 17 at halftime and still lost by 21.

With their season on the line in San Antonio, the Blazers need Henderson to show up his 31-point Game 2 performance was genuinely special and 0-for-7 in Game 4 is not who he is. Expect him to push for 26-30 if he attacks the rim the way he did in Game 2 rather than settling for perimeter attempts Wembanyama can close out.

Avdija has been the most consistent player on either side of this series 30, 14, 26 across three games and needs another 26-30 performance to keep Portland alive. Holiday at 18-22 points while orchestrating is the glue. The biggest challenge is Clingan and Williams producing against a fully healthy Wembanyama. Without interior production, Portland cannot score enough to win.

The Trail Blazers, on average, score 114 points per game, they score 45.5% from the field and are ranked 5th in the league, and 36.2% from the arc and are ranked 5th in the league. The Trail Blazers grab 42 rebounds per game and ranked 4th in the season.

The Spurs are one victory from their first playoff series win since 2017, and almost every member of their roster including coach Mitch Johnson has never won a postseason series before.

That motivation, combined with a fully healthy Wembanyama at home and a Portland team that surrendered a 17-point halftime lead in Game 4, makes this a very difficult spot for the Blazers.

Henderson has to return to his Game 2 form or Portland simply does not have enough offense to compete. Avdija cannot do it alone

Head-to-Head Record (Last 5 Matches):

San Antonio had a 4–1 edge in the last five meetings. The Spurs averaged 112 points per game in those clashes while conceding 101.2, and the Trail Blazers averaged 101.2 points while giving up 112 to San Antonio. The average total points per game sits at approximately 213.

San Antonio Spurs vs Portland Trail Blazers Player Stats

Player Name Points Rebounds Assists Steals/Blocks
Victor Wembanyama 22.3 7 1.7 1.3/3.3
Deni Avdija 22.3 6.8 5 0.5/0.5

San Antonio at home with Wembanyama healthy, a chance to make history, and a Portland team that just blew a 17-point lead the Spurs close this series out. Fox and Wembanyama are too much of a closing combination for an undermanned Blazers team to overcome in a winner-take-all moment on the road.
