But it is their batting form that is a cause for concern now.

Barring Sobhana Mostary, who has made 36 and 44 at under run-a-ball, no batter has looked like they can go out there, put their head down and play to the conditions or the situation of the match. Skipper Nigar Sultana has got to two figures on both the occasions, but somehow, she hasn’t been able to carry on batting, exposing the brittle lower middle order too soon. In addition, Dilara Akhter replacing Murshida Khatun didn’t go to plan. And neither has Taj Nehar sliding down to beef up the thin lower order.

With the ball, Bangladesh women i bowlers, most of them if not all, have been on target. Special mention to Nahida Akter, Fahima Khatun and Ritu Moni who have come away with excellent returns in the two matches they’ve played so far.

We expect Rabeya Khan to hit her stride sooner than later. Marufa Akter will need to fine tune her bowling with the new ball early on and knock over a couple of wickets during the powerplay.

West Indies Preview

West Indies women were pummelled into submission by South Africa in the first match, but they didn’t take long recovering from that huge setback.

Knowing that they dug a hole for themselves playing defensively, West Indies women came out attacking and made light work of the 100-run target. They romped home in the 12th over with six wickets in hand, helping their NRR recover slightly after the battering they suffered at the hands of South Africa.

The batting still looks a bit circumspect, with captain Matthews unable to get out of the blocks. Deandra Dottin, Stefanie Taylor, Qiana Joseph have played within themselves but still chipped in with some useful runs in one of the matches. They’ll look far better playing their natural game but that purely hinges on how the rest of the group particularly the lower middle order handles scoring runs at the death. It’s imperative that their captain overcomes the slump in form and contributes to the team’s cause right from the word get-go.

The bowling group had a match to forget against South Africa where not even one bowler could prise out a wicket. But they bounced back quickly, with leggie Afy Fletcher leading the way with three wickets to put a lid on the Scottish women scoring.
