The in-form Bengal team will lock horns with Assam at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground. Assam have shown promise with the ball in their encounters against Railways and Services.
However, as they met Tripura in their last outing, the bowlers were outdone by the opposition, who scored a mammoth 602 runs batting first. Ayushman Malakar, Rahul Singh, and Mukhtar Hussain are the key bowlers in this squad.
For Bengal, everything is going right. From consistent performances in the middle order to the brilliant bowling performances, Bengal have found new match-winners in every game.
Despite Mohammad Shami and Akash Deep missing out on the last game against Railways, Bengal secured an innings victory in Surat. Mohammad Kaif and Shahbaz Ahmed have emerged as match-winners with the ball for Bengal.
Assam’s top 4 have been out of form and are struggling to find consistency. That will be a major concern for skipper Denish Das going into this match. Purkayastha, Pradyun Saikia, and the skipper himself will be crucial in staging a comeback for Assam.

Sudip Gharami took over the captaincy in the last match after Abhishek Porel was dropped from the side. Both Gharami and Porel have been a crucial part of the batting lineup, with Gharami delivering consistently as an opener and Porel being a solid and reliable number 5.
When Porel was dropped, the number 4 batter Anustup Majumdar came in at 5 as Bengal won the toss and opted to bat first. The 41-year-old batting all-rounder scored a brilliant 135-run knock after he came in to bat when Bengal were 3 wickets down for 27 runs.
Sumanta Gupta, another experienced middle-order batter, joined Majumdar for a big partnership to lead the side to a match-winning total. Gupta was the second centurion for Bengal in the game.
They also have Shahbaz Ahmad in the lower middle order to add more depth to the batting. There are plenty of big guns in this batting lineup. In the top order, in addition to Gharami, Shakir H Gandhi is also a promising batter at number 3.
Shahbaz Ahmad and Rahul Prasad will be leading the spin-bowling department. These two have been in great touch lately and will be ones to watch out for in the squad. Mohammad Kaif, a right-arm fast-medium bowler, has also made a huge splash with his recent performances.
In the absence of the big names like Shami, Akash Deep, and Porel, bowling all-rounder Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal stepped up to the occasion with a 4-fer in the first innings. Overall, Bengal have a balanced squad with plenty of match-winners in every department.

Assam are desperately looking for a win. They have drawn the last two matches but suffered an 8-wicket loss before that. Despite bowling out Services for 108 runs, Assam lost the game as their batting collapsed once again in the second innings.
Though they’ve bounced back well since that loss, their batting performances haven’t been as strong as they’d like. The bowling has been quite promising. After they bowled out Services for 108, Assam went on to restrict Railways to 224 runs in the next game while bowling first.
However, there was an issue in both of these matches. The bowlers struggled to find early wickets and put pressure on the opposition during the second innings. And in the last game, they were outplayed by Tripura in the first innings itself.
Mukhtar Hussain and Ayushman Malakar are the key wicket-takers for Assam. Rahul Singh has also shown great promise with his left-arm orthodox, and the skipper tends to bowl him a lot.
As they take on Bengal, the skipper will be mostly concerned with his team’s batting form. The inconsistencies and lack of reliable players who can play the big knocks are what put them behind in this contest.
Opening batter Abhishek Thakuri is struggling to get going at the top, while his partner Pradyun Saikia is a promising player who scored a fifty for Assam in their loss against Services.
Purkayastha and skipper Denish Das are other key players in the top 4 who need to step up and deliver impactful performances to lead Assam to a competitive total. In the lower middle order, Mukhtar Hussain and Sibasankar Roy are handy with the bat.
Riyan Parag can make a huge difference if he comes back in the side. He holds a crucial position in the middle order and can help recover after a major collapse in the batting.

Since there haven’t been a lot of games played on this venue, very little information is available on the nature of the pitch or the average first innings score in Tests. However, since it is the first game at this venue this season, we reckon, it will be a good pitch to bat on early in the Test and will help the spinners as the match progresses.
There haven’t been a lot of games played on this ground, and hence, we haven’t got much data to rely on. Considering the current form of both teams and their strengths, we reckon the team winning the toss must opt to bat first. Assam will have a better chance at a win in this game if they avoid chasing a target on the final day of the Test against a strong spin-bowling attack of Bengal.
Bengal will have the upper hand going into this match. Their key players are in sublime form while the opposition is struggling to find rhythm with both bat and ball. Bengal’s bowlers will pose a threat to Assam’s struggling batting order. Bengal will start as the favourites in our match prediction.
