Canada are coming off a competitive performance despite going down by 10 runs against Italy in this ICC Men’s T20 World Cup warm-up match in Chennai.
After winning the toss and opting to field, Canada’s bowlers started well and kept Italy in check during the powerplay. Kaleem Sana and Saad Bin Zafar were impressive, using the conditions smartly and picking up key wickets to prevent Italy from running away with the innings.
Although a few loose overs in the middle allowed Italy to post 156/4, Canada did well to restrict them to a chaseable total.
With the bat, Canada showed intent early, as Yuvraj Samra and skipper Dilpreet Bajwa gave them a solid start. Bajwa’s 37 and Nicholas Kirton’s composed 33 kept Canada in the hunt.
However, regular wickets in the middle overs and the lack of a strong finish hurt their chase. Canada ended on 146/6, falling just short in a closely fought contest. The loss clearly highlighted the loopholes in Canada's batting lineup and the lack of six hitters or boundary scorers in the middle overs and area they will look to focus on in the fixture against Nepal.

After the host nation India, Nepal are among the fan favourites for this World Cup. The ultimate underdogs, they are capable of outclassing any team on their day with sheer grit and determination. Although they have not played much international cricket recently, their players have remained active across various T20 leagues.
Led by Rohit Paudel, Nepal have a young squad, with most players featuring in their first World Cup, while a few made their presence felt with standout performances in the 2024 edition. Nepal will look to place greater focus on their batting, especially on spin-friendly tracks, as their bowling unit is already in good form and well settled.
The Sheikh brothers at the top of the order, both known for their calculative approach, will be tested early, while Kushal Bhurtel and Dipendra Singh Airee remain the most destructive six-hitters in the batting lineup.
In the bowling department, Nepal’s hopes largely rest on Sandeep Lamichhane and Lalit Rajbanshi, while Sompal Kami, Karan KC, and Dipendra Singh Airee provide reliable pace options.

The pitch at M. A Chidambaram Stadium offers a balanced track that favours both the batters and bowlers. The average scoring rate at this venue is around 7.5 -8 runs per over, with the average 1st innings score hovering around 155-160 runs.
In an afternoon game batting first is always the go to choice at Chepauk as the surface wears down later in the day and run scoring becomes difficult.
