Jammu and Kashmir Women are off to a poor start in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025. Will they manage to bounce back in their second outing as they take on a strong Uttar Pradesh side?
UP Women finished second in Group B with 20 points from 7 games in the last season. Though they have started their 2025 campaign with a convincing win over Kerala at the IS Bindra Cricket Stadium in Mohali, Uttar Pradesh will be looking for batting gains as they come to New Chandigarh.
J&K Women have some promising names in their batting lineup, including skipper Jasia Akhtar, who was the opening batter for the side last year. However, except for Bawandeep Kaur, who scored 24 off 32 at the top, no other batter scored in double digits for Jammu and Kashmir in their season opener against Mumbai.
The batting performances from both J&K and UP Women were underwhelming. In addition to missing Deepti Sharma, there have been other major changes to UP’s batting lineup. However, Anjali Singh is still part of the side and is a key player in the lower middle order.

Jammu and Kashmir will need to turn things around quickly. It was a disastrous batting performance against the defending champions, Mumbai, in their previous match at the PCA New Cricket Stadium.
Two games were played on this ground. And both of them turned out to be low-scoring affairs. The teams batting first struggled to post a competitive total, and now, as they take on UP, skipper Jasia Akhtar will prefer to bowl first.
Bawandeep Kaur was sent to open the innings alongside Syed Sheikh, who scored 6 off 24 balls. Kaur’s 24 off 32 was the top performance for the team.
All eyes will be on Chitra Singh and Jasia Akthar in the middle order to step up and deliver impactful knocks to lead the comeback. Rudrakshi Chib, who played in the top order last season, is another key batter to watch out for at number 6.
The pitch is challenging for the batters to score quickly, and only the likes of Mumbai and Vidarbha with a strong batting lineup have managed to score at more than a run a ball here.
Sarla Devi and Hassan Talie will be in the driver’s seat with the ball. The conditions here suit the bowlers, and Devi has already delivered an impressive spell against Mumbai. Chib and Sandhya Sayal are other key wicket-takers in this bowling attack.

Uttar Pradesh Women were exceptional with the bat last year, starting their 2024 campaign by scoring 172 runs batting first against Arunachal Pradesh. Later in the league stage, the Deepti Sharma-led side scored 136 runs against Maharashtra, winning the game by a big margin.
However, this year, there is no Deepti Sharma since she is part of the India squad for the Women’s World Cup 2025. Muskan Malik and Sampada Dixit could not get them off to a start expected of a strong team like UP.
Both openers were back in the hut with only 32 runs on the scoreboard in the 9th over. Skipper Sonali Singh, who came in at number 3, was also pretty slow with her batting, scoring 22 off 34 balls.
Anjali Singh was the top performer for Uttar Pradesh with an unbeaten 31 off 18 balls at number 6. Though they managed to defend a 107-run total against Kerala, UP need their key batters to find their rhythm and make significant contributions to the total.
In addition to the openers, the likes of Nishi Kashyap and wicket-keeper Nishu Choudhary also struggled to get going, and will likely find it even more difficult to score quickly on this wicket.
Anjali Singh was also crucial with the ball, returning figures of 2 for 15 from 4 Overs. There are many reliable wicket-takers in this bowling attack, and Sonam Yadav and Shilpi Yadav are the ones to watch out for.

It will be clear and sunny in Chandigarh with a high of 27 degrees Celsius. It should be a great day for cricket, and the weather will further improve conditions for spin bowling. There should be no rain interruptions during the game, and we expect an exciting contest between the two teams.
The PCA New Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh offers a bowling-friendly wicket where the team batting first has struggled to post a decent score in both games so far in this tournament. The average first innings score here this season is 71 runs. However, the team batting first should aim for 120 runs or more to get into a winning position in the match.
Considering the difficulty in scoring and the fact that the chasing team won both games played here in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025, bowling first should be the way to go. UP Women will look to capitalise on their current bowling form, while J&K Women must rely on their bowlers to give them an edge in the contest.
Though J&K Women have a promising bowling attack, their recent batting performance has raised serious concerns. There have been a few changes to the batting lineup in both teams, but UP Women have fared better. UP’s bowling is also much stronger and will pose a serious threat to the J&K batting. Uttar Pradesh Women will hold the upper hand going into this match.
