When Lancashire Lightning travelled to Derby on June 20th, they could never have expected to win at such a canter as they did. Okay, they were higher in the North Group than Derbyshire Falcons, their hosts, but no one foresaw the visitors posting 243/7 before dismissing the opposition for just 163!
That victory came a week after Lightning had beaten Worcestershire Rapids by seven wickets and the men from Old Trafford made it three wins in a row by taking out top of the table Northants Steelbacks, winning by five wickets with three balls remaining, and replacing them at the top of the table.
As for the Falcons, they have not played in this format since the last head to head against Lancashire Lightning and they begin this game with at least one game in hand on most of the other sides in the group but propping it up, four points adrift of Yorkshire in eighth.
There's all to play for ahead of this top versus bottom clash!

When Derbyshire Falcons hosted Lancashire Lightning last month, in their last fixture in the North Group, it was a night to forget with all of their six-man bowling attack conceding at an economy rate of between 10.00 and 17.50.
Zak Chappell did at least take two wickets and he along with Martin Andersson and Pat Brown are likely to be the most dangerous to Lancashire's batters in this fixture.
Chappell and AM Ghazanfar made useful lower order runs but ultimately the game was already out of reach due to five fo the top seven posting a single-figure score.
Australian Caleb Jewell took on the Lancashire bowlers and made 65 runs from 43 balls in Derby but he will need some support from experienced heads like Wayne Madsen and Samit Patel in this game!
Phil Salt Total Runs Over 24.5 1.85
Phil Salt scored a magnificent half century in the last match where he smashed 80 runs and helped Lancashire chase down 178 runs. Salt has scored 448 runs in 14 matches, averaging 34.46 in matches played at Old Trafford, Manchester. Given his current form, Salt is one of the safest players to bet on and we back him to score over 24 runs in this contest.

Confidence will be sky-high in the away dressing room in Derby on Saturday afternoon after Lancashire Lightning made it three wins in a row and replaced Northants Steelbacks at the top of the North Group by beating them on Friday evening by five wickets with three balls remaining.
Lightning were already in excellent form and challenging for the top places ahead of the last round but they were boosted by the international pairing of Phil Salt at the top of the order and keeper-batter Jos Buttler at number three.
Those two would improve most sides in the world and so it proved with Salt smashing 80 and Buttler 42 - we expect them both to be key once again on Saturday afternoon.
With the ball, Lancashire have left and right-arm pace in James Anderson, Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood - all with international experience. Australian spinner Chris Green is an excellent T20 player and comes into the game in great form.
Caleb Jewel Total Runs Over 20.5 1.85
Caleb Jewel has scores of 65, 32 & 18 runs in the last three matches. He has scored 227 runs in 8 matches, averaging 28.37. The last time he played against Lancashire, Jewel scored 32 runs, he is one of the inform batters for Derbyshire and we back him to continue his good run of form and score over 20 runs in this fixture.
Derbyshire to have the highest opening partnership 2.08
Derbyshire openers are averaging 65.6 runs for the first wicket over their last three matches, while Lancashire openers have averaged 43 runs per match in their last three outings. We're backing Derbyshire's opening pair of Aneurin Donald and Caleb Jewell, who are in good form, to continue their strong work at the top and provide another solid opening partnership for Derbyshire.

Old Trafford is still one of the fastest pitches in the UK and after a warm and dry summer so far there will also be turn for the spinners on both sides. We expect a par score of 180+ in the first innings of the game.
Lancashire to Win the Coin Toss 1.95
We back the home team Lancashire to win the coin toss in match 79 of Vitality T20 Blast 2025 against Derbyshire.
According to the forecast, this will be a mild but overcast day in Manchester with the conditions similar throughout the match. Both sides prefer to chase so we predict they will both want to bowl first.
Derbyshire Falcons had won their two previous games before they were thrashed by Lancashire Lightning but there was a huge gulf between the teams. That has only increased with star players Phil Salt and Jos Buttler returning so we expect another big win for Lancashire on Saturday afternoon.
