Many pundits considered the North Group to be all over before mid-June with no one able to stop the runaway train that was Northants Steelbacks at the top of the table.
However, times have changed over the last three weeks and the Steelbacks have gone from winning six out of six to coming into this Friday evening's fixture against Lancashire Lightning with an overall record of six victories from eight!
Lancashire Lightning suffered a mid-season blip in early June with defeats against the Steelbacks and Leicestershire Foxes but they have since thrashed both Worcestershire Rapids and Derbyshire Falcons to now be the nearest challengers to Northants.
Expect some high quality cricket on Friday night in Northampton.

Although Northants Steelbacks are still top of the table, they now enjoy only a four point cushion to Durham in fourth place and the confidence which was there for all to see up until mid-June does not look quite so sure-footed now!
In their last game, at home to Notts Outlaws, the Steelbacks were beaten by 24 runs despite the bowling attack picking up eight wickets. Ben Sanderson has been unstoppable throughout this campaign and is still yet to go wicketless ahead of this clash against Lancashire Lightning. David Willey, Luke Procter and George Scrimshaw make up a very solid bowling unit.
With the bat, there has been plenty of reliance on Ravi Bopara so far in this campaign but Daivd Willey and Lewis McManus have also chipped in from the middle and lower-middle order.
Runs from Ricardo Vasconcelos at the top of the order would be extremely welcome as the Steelbacks hunt for a way to find their form again in this format.

It has been a season across all formats which has plummeted to new lows for Lancashire but the County Championship side picked up a win earlier this week and the Blast team have been impressing over recent weeks.
Now comes perhaps their biggest test in a while as they take on the top of the table side in the Blast, Northants Steelbacks, a side who are by no means unbeatable!
It was the top order who delivered for Lancashire in their last game with Luke Wells (83 runs from 44 balls) and Matty Hurst (59 runs from 29 balls) doing the business. Not to mention a quickfire 33 from 17 balls from Liam Livingstone.
And with the ball, spinner Chris Green comes into this game after taking 3/16 from his four overs against Derbyshire Falcons and he will be looking to replicate his economy and wickets return in this fixture.

It will certainly be humid throughout this game on Friday evening with plenty of cloud cover in Northampton. Temperatures will be in the region of 25 degrees at the start although may dip to 20 by the end.

This has been a venue where batters and bowlers have got on top this season. We expect a par total of no more than 185 in the first innings of this game on a pitch which will offer something for spinners and pacers alike.
It will be a warm evening on Friday in Northampton and we expect both sides to choose to bat first if they win the toss and so have the opportunity to field in cooler conditions in this match.
Momentum can be a thing in all tournaments and despite the brief switch back to red-ball cricket, we expect Northants Steelbacks to be looking a bit less secure as what we saw in the early part of June. Lancashire are now a different and confident animal and we are backing them to get the victory!
