Bet NowDespite putting up some good performances, Lancashire Lightning are currently at the 5th place in the points table. Their last match against Warwickshire was unfortunately washed out and they now face a big challenge against the Notts Outlaws at home. Lancashire have won 3 matches from their 6 but taking on Nottinghamshire won’t be easy. The Notts are at the 2nd place in the North Group and going really well. They have 3 wins in 5 matches and are on quite a winning spree at the moment.
Lancashire’s last match against Warwickshire was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain. They had suffered a 6-wicket loss against Durham in the match before that but their best performance so far came against Derbyshire earlier this week. Chasing a huge target of 197, Lancashire overhauled the score with 10 balls and 7 wickets in hand. Alex Davies with his unbeaten 83 off 54 balls was the hero of the match for the team.
Liam Livingstone has been the team’s most consistent batsman this season with 254 runs in 5 matches and 2 fifties. However, the opener hasn’t got much support as only fellow opener Finn Allen and Jos Buttler have managed more than 100 runs so far. Captain Dane Vilas has shown that he can be an incredible striker down the order with his breathtaking unbeaten knock of 40 off 18 balls against Derbyshire.
On the bowling front, Matthew Parkinson has been the pick of the lot for Lancashire with 9 wickets so far at an economy of 8.05. The others like Tom Bailey, Luke Wood, and even Livingstone have played a good supporting role but haven’t really excelled. Danny Lamb is also becoming a concern as his economy rate of 8.81 is quite high.

The Notts are coming off a close 2-run win against Derbyshire in their last match. But that win took their streak to 3 matches in a row and they would love for it to continue. Nottinghamshire posted 152-6 in 15 overs (the match was reduced due to rain) when at one stage they were reeling at 87-5. But a fine 38 off 25 balls by Ben Duckett and an incredible knock of 64*off 3 2 balls by all-rounder Samit Patel turned things around for them.
Batting has been the team’s strength and Joe Clarke (210 runs in 5 matches) and Alex Hales (141 runs in 5 matches) form a solid opening combo. Duckett has been a reliable middle-order batsman as well as the presence of Patel and captain Steven Mullaney down the order gives them more strength.
Nottinghamshire’s bowling unit has done a good job as well. Right-arm off-break bowler Matthew Carter, who’s opening the bowling for them, has 9 wickets already at an economy of 7.55. Luke Fletcher has been their other chief performer with 7 wickets, although he has been quite expensive and has gone at an economy of 10.31. The role of left-arm spinner Samit Patel, who returned with impressive figures of 2-14 in 3 overs against Derbyshire, will also be crucial here.

Old Trafford is a very good T20 surface that offers something both for the batsmen and bowlers throughout the game. Slower bowlers do have a much better time here than pacers as the pitch does ten do slow down a little.
The news of the weather at Manchester on the day of the game isn’t very encouraging. Rain is on the radar and the game might be truncated.
The highest total in the T20 Blast at Old Trafford is 231-4 by Lancashire against Yorkshire in 2015. But the average first innings winning score at Old Trafford in the tournament is 169. So the team batting first in this game must try and target a total of around 175 to feel safe.
The teams batting 1st have won close to 62% of the T20 games at Old Trafford, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the captain winning the toss chooses to bat first.
In the last 4 completed matches between Lancashire and Nottinghamshire, the Notts have won 3 while Lancashire has managed just 1 victory. Nottinghamshire looks in great form this season and have a very well-balanced team. Their batting, particularly, is quite strong. Lancashire’s batting is good but their bowling lacks teeth. They might produce something special, but based on current form and their overall strength, the Notts appear to be favorites for this clash.
Expect Nottinghamshire to clinch victory in this match.
