It is the final game of the Super League Group A in SMAT 2025. With Jharkhand topping the group, Madhya Pradesh still stands a chance to qualify for the finals. MP will play Punjab at DY Patil Academy, Ambi, from 9 am onwards.
Madhya Pradesh have won one of their two matches in the Super League. In their most recent outing against Jharkhand, they endured a heartbreaking defeat. Bowling first, MP did well to restrict Jharkhand to 181 for 9, with Venkatesh Iyer delivering an excellent spell of 3 for 17. In the chase, Harsh Gawali and Harpreet Singh Bhatia stitched together a crucial 122-run partnership to put MP in a strong position. However, with four runs needed off the final three deliveries, Madhya Pradesh could manage only two, falling short by a single run.
Table-toppers of Group B, Punjab, have been knocked out of the tournament following back-to-back defeats in the Super League. Batting first against Andhra, Punjab posted a strong total of 205 for 5, with Anmolpreet Singh scoring 47 off 27 balls and Ramandeep Singh blasting 43 off just 18 deliveries. However, Punjab’s bowlers struggled to contain the opposition in the chase. Despite Gurnoor Brar’s impressive spell of 3 for 23, Andhra chased down the target with five wickets in hand, sealing Punjab’s exit from the competition.
Both teams last faced each other in the previous edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Batting first, Madhya Pradesh posted 188 for 8, with Rajat Patidar top-scoring with 62. For Punjab, Baltej Singh and Abhishek Sharma claimed two wickets apiece, and Sharma then played a brisk knock of 61 off 36 balls in the chase. Despite his efforts, Punjab fell short, losing the match by nine runs. Arshad Khan and Kumar Kartikeya starred with the ball for MP, picking up three wickets each to seal the victory.

The weather in Ambi is expected to be sunny on match day, with temperatures ranging from 13 to 27 degrees Celsius. Winds will blow from the southeast at 6-10 km/h. It is a balanced pitch. The stadium traditionally offers favourable conditions for batsmen. Its dry surface, combined with relatively short boundaries, makes it easier for batters to clear the ropes, contributing to high-scoring contests. Length balls can travel the distance quickly, putting bowlers under pressure from the start. As the match progresses, spinners do come into play with some turn and assistance on offer, but overall, it remains a venue where stroke-making and aggressive batting thrive.

MP will be eying the place in the finals. They have a good batting attack. But Punjab batters are known to score quick runs. The problem will be with Punjab’s bowling as Harpreet Brar is the only key bowler. But with MP, it is equally distributed. The top four bowlers have 40 wickets in 9 games.
We predict that Madhya Pradesh will win against Punjab.
