After a thrilling start against Oman, Namibia is all geared up to face Scotland in the 12th game of the ICC WT20 2024 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on 12th June from 12:30 AM onwards. Namibia will be eying up for a win to grab the first position in the points table. If any of their remaining games against Australia or England wash out, then Scotland will have a chance to qualify for the Super 8 stage for the first time in their T20I history.
It was a high-voltage drama when Namibia played its first game against Oman. After inviting Oman to bat, Namibia restricted them to 109 after a bowling masterclass from their pacers Ruben Trumpelmann (4 wickets) & David Wiese (3 wickets). Chasing 109, Namibia lost three wickets while chasing 5 runs in the last over to tie the game. David Wiese’s experience came in handy for Namibia in the super over. The all-rounder scored 13 runs with the bat and then clinched a wicket by giving just 10 runs. Namibia won the game by 11 runs to register their first win in the ICC WT20 2024.
The game between England and Scotland turned out to be the first abandoned game of the T20 World Cup 2024. But Scotland's batting unit showed their strength by scoring 90 runs in the only 10 overs that were bowled before the game was called off. Openers George Munsey & Michael Jones scored unbeaten 41 & 45 runs respectively. As a result, Scotland got their first point in the T20 World Cup 2024.
For Group B, Namibia is currently leading the points table with two points while Scotland is in the joint second position with England.
Namibia will be high on confidence after registering their first win. Michael van Lingen will open the innings with Nikolaas Davin. Davin is the leading run-scorer in T20Is for Scotland since the start of the last year. The opener has scored 506 runs in 15 games at a strike rate of 132.11. He has scored fifty in every 4 games he has played in this period. He will be the player to watch out for in this game. Jan Frylinck will come at number three for Scotland. The left-hand all-rounder is the second leading run-getter for Scotland since Jan 2023. But his strike rate (110) can cause a problem for Scotland. Against Oman, Frylink managed to score 45 at a strike rate of 93.75.
The Namibian middle-order is full of all-rounders. Skipper Gerhard Erasmus at number 4 has proven to be a game-changer for them in recent games. Erasmus has 373 runs in the last 17 games including 2 fifties. The right arm-spinner is the leading wicket-taker for Scotland with 26 wickets at an economy of 4.75. JJ Smit at number 5 averages 54 in the last 14 innings. He also has 12 wickets at an economy of 6.10.
Namibia’s shining star of the first game, David Wiese is undoubtedly the backbone for them in the middle. Wiese whose strike rate is 134.37 at number 6 has taken 16 wickets in the last 12 games at an economy of 6.33. In the first game against Oman. He took 4 wickets (including 1 in the super over). Wiesse will lead the bowling attack with Bernard Scholtz and Ruben Trumpelmann. Trumpelmann who is the third-leading wicket-taker for Scotland with 17 wickets took 4 for 21 against Oman. He will be the bowler to watch out for. On the other hand, the left-arm spinner Bernard Scholtz has 22 wickets in the last 20 innings.

Scotland will be happy to settle with one point against the dangerous English team. Skipper Richie Berrington will be looking forward to taking the two points against Namibia. George Munsey will open the innings with Michael Jones. The duo scored an unbeaten 90 runs for the first wicket against England before the game was called off. Munsey has been Scotland’s leading run-scorer since the last year with 475 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 145.
Brandon McMullen will play at number 3. McMullen has over 200 runs in the last 9 games. Berrington will remain at number 4 throughout this tournament. Berrington has over 308 runs in 11 games. at a strike rate of 161.25- second best to Ollie Hairs. The middle-order is Scotland’s weak link. They don’t have a big name in the middle order to add the runs if the top order collapses. All the load will be on Matthew Cross and Michael Leask if the top order fails against Namibia.
Bradley Currie and Mark Watt will lead the bowling unit with Chris Sole. Currie has 19 wickets in 11 matches since last year in T20Is for Scotland at an economy of 4.94. But this will be the real test of the left-handed bowler. On the other hand, Mark Watt is the leading wicket-taker for Scotland in T20Is. He has 77 wickets at an economy of less than 7. He has taken 15 in the same games as that of Currie.

The weather will be partly cloudy. The temperature will range between 27 and 31. The wind will be flowing from the west at 10-25 kmh. The pitch at Kensington Oval is traditionally known for being one of the more balanced surfaces in the Caribbean. It offers a fair contest between bat and ball, with something in it for everyone. The pitch tends to be on the faster side, assisting pace bowlers early on.
Expect the new ball to do a bit under the Barbados sun, which can be a challenge for the top-order batsmen. As the match progresses, the pitch is known to wear down and provide assistance to spinners.
The 12th T20I of the series will be played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. The venue has a capacity of 28000 spectators and has hosted 55 Tests & 44 T20Is. In 2022, West Indies have recorded the highest total on the ground (224) against England.
In 44 T20Is, the results have favored the team setting the target 28 times. Even the last four games out of five have been won by the team that opted to bat first. The average first innings score at the Village is 136. The team winning the toss should bat first.
The first win in the ICC WT20 has lifted the morale of Namibia. As compared to Scotland their batting attack is more balanced whereas the bowling unit is currently in the lethal form. Nikolaas Davin might give a headache to the Scottish bowling unit.
Besides this, Namibia is unbeaten against Scotland in their last 4 T20Is.
We predict that Namibia will defeat Scotland.
