New Delhi Tigers kicked off their DPL 2026 campaign against the Lions in their first game of the season. The Tigers fell short of the WDL total by 21 runs. The toss has favoured NDT on many occasions this year.
They won the toss and opted to bowl first in 3 of the first 4 games, but won just one of them. After losing the toss and the game in 3 consecutive games, NDT finally won the toss but, once again, failed to chase down a target in their last match.
West Delhi Lions suffered a huge defeat in their last game. Nitish Rana was the only batter to cross the 30-run mark as they posted a 169-run total batting first. While the batting has been struggling lately, the bowling performance was the worst yet as the SDS chased this total down with 10 wickets in hand.
Tigers’ Hritik Shokeen will be keen on making a comeback with the ball, and this is a great opportunity. This is their best chance to move off the bottom of the points table.

Despite winning the toss and opting to bowl first, the Tigers suffered a big loss in their recent match against EDR. As a result, NDT moved down in the points table to the bottom position. In the game before that, the Himmat Singh-led side posted a 200+ run score batting first against SDS.
The batting had just started to improve for the New Delhi Tigers, with scores of 217 and 185 in their previous games while batting first. And just when they had the best opportunity to convert this momentum into a victory, the batting order collapsed.
Himmat Singh alone cannot carry the side to a winning total. While he does have the support from Vaibhav Raval in the middle order, others like Atulya Pandey and Lakshay Thareja haven’t converted their starts.
There is potential in the middle order, but we haven’t seen any promise, with no real match-winner in the lineup. In the bowling attack, Laxman is their best bet while Shokeen struggles to find success. Rishabh Sharma and Yashjeet are other key wicket-takers, while no one really stands out.
Himmat Singh’s 31 off 20 balls was the top performance in the last game while chasing 193
There hasn’t been a single fifty in the last 3 innings for NDT
While Shokeen has picked up 8 wickets so far this season, he averages 30.63

West Delhi Lions suffered a 10-wicket loss in their last outing, failing to defend 169 against South Delhi Superstarz. This was their third straight loss since their 8-wicket win over East Delhi Riders.
Krish Yadav’s blistering knock in that game saw WDL chase down a revised target in just 25 balls. The wicket-keeper opening batsman, however, has struggled to convert his starts since then.
Nitish Rana looks in fine rhythm at number 3 and is a key batter to watch. This has been the problem with WDL. There is never more than one or two batters in form at the same time. This has affected their ability to build partnerships that can turn the game in their favour.
Ankit Kumar and Jitesh Singh are among the others in the top 4 who have played some good knocks in the past but are now struggling to get off to a start. Doesja holds the key in the lower middle order and will be crucial for a big finish.
Mayank Gussain is the key bowler in this attack, though all of them were wicketless in their recent outing. In the game before that, WDL picked up just 2 wickets while defending 146 runs, with Gussain finishing with 1 for 19 in 2 Overs.
Overall, the Lions don’t look too threatening with either bat or ball. Bowling first and restricting the Tigers to under 190 runs is their best chance at winning this match.
Nitish Rana scored 60 off 33 balls in the last match, following up his 33 off 17 knock from the previous game.
Kulwant Khejroliya and Manan Bharadwaj have picked up 7 wickets each in the season so far

There will be a thundershower in Delhi a couple of hours before the start of this game, followed by light rain around 8 pm, which is just a little after the start time of the match. The temperatures will remain in the range of 29 degrees Celsius, with the humidity around 85 per cent. If the rain doesn’t persist, we could have a complete game in the best-case scenario.

It is a high-scoring venue where the pitch offers plenty of help to batters. There is easy carry and consistent bounce off the surface, helping the batters time their strokes to perfection. The average first innings score in the recent matches played at this venue is 193 runs. While it may not be an ideal total to help the team win matches on this ground, in this game, it might just be enough to score something around 193-197 runs in the first innings.
Though there have been a few games recently that went in favour of the team batting first, the venue is still ideal for chasing a total. It isn’t very common to cross the 210-run mark in the first innings, and that has been a winning score here. Most teams finish under 190 when batting first, and such a score has been successfully defended on this ground this season. Though teams batting first won 2 of the last 5 matches, those wins came after an 11-game streak for the chasing side.
Toss has always played a big role on this ground in DPL 2026. However, considering the struggles of the New Delhi Tigers despite winning the toss, we reckon the Lions will fancy their chances even if they bat first. Both teams are equally poor in recent form and lack momentum. However, the Tigers will have a slight edge, given their overall squad strength and, in particular, their batting depth. NDT will start as favourites in our match prediction.
