Rangpur Riders will take on Chittagong Kings in the 37th match if Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on 29th January 2025 at 1:00 pm IST. These are the closing stages of the league stage of this season of Bangladesh Premier League. Each team is set to play 12 matches; most have played about 9 to 10 games so far.
Rangpur Riders have almost confirmed a spot in the playoffs with 8 wins in 10 games. They won 8 consecutive matches at the start of the season but have lost the previous 2 games. Chittagong Kings on the other hand have won 5 out of their 9 games and are currently placed 4th. Can they hand the table toppers Rangpur Riders 3rd loss in a row or will the riders return to winning in this game?

Rangpur Raider had a flawless start to Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25. They won 8 consecutive games at the start of the tournament. But in the previous two games against Durbar Rajshahi, they could not continue the winning streak. However, despite the two losses, the Rangpur Raiders are at the top of the table with 16 points and a healthy net run rate of 1.070.
Rangpur Riders started the season with two victories batting first against Dhaka Capital by 40 runs and Sylhet Strikers by 34 runs. They followed this with four wins chasing against Fortune Barishal by 8 wickets, Sylhet Strikers by 8 wickets, Dhaka Capital by 7 wickets, and Fortune Barishal again by 3 wickets. All of these were comprehensive defeats and at no point it looked like Rangapur Riders would lose a game.
Rangpur Riders' last two victories came against Khulna Tigers by 8 runs and against the opponent in this game Chittagong Kings by a comprehensive margin of 33 runs. Against Chittagong Kings, Rangpur Riders batted first to score 164 for 7 in 20 overs. Stephen Taylor 39 of 32 balls and Khushdil Shah 59 of just 28 balls helped the team reach a respectable score. In defense, Akif Javed took four wickets for 32 runs, helped by Khushdil Shah who took two wickets for 23 runs. The Riders managed to restrict Chittagong Kings to just 131 runs in 20 overs, winning the match comprehensively by 33 runs.
The previous two games, the Riders played a doubleheader against Durbar Rajshahi. While they lost the first match by 24 runs, the second game was a close one in which the Riders failed to chase 120 in 20 overs falling short by just 2 runs. Needing 24 in the last over, Jishan Alam was able to hit 22 runs. Looking at their previous victory against Chittagong Kings, the Rangatur Riders should feel confident to defeat them yet again and maintain the top spot in the points table.
Key players: Khushdil Shah, Akif Javed, Saif Hassan, Mahedi Hasan
Khushdil Shah has scores of 10, 14, 59, 73 & 48 in his last five BPL innings. He has been in prolific form throughout the season for the Riders and we back the left hander to continue his good run of form and score over 17 runs against the Kings.

Chittagong Kings started the season almost as good as Rangpur Riders, but they lost their way in the last few games. Chittagong Kings had four victories in the first five games, but in the last four games, they have managed to win just one game. With five wins in nine games, Chittagong Kings are in fourth place in the points table with 10 points, but a very good second-best net run rate of 1.045.
Chittagong King started the season with a comprehensive loss against Khulna Tigers (by 37 runs) but followed that by four consecutive victories against Darbar Rajshahi by 105 runs, against Dhaka Capitals by 7 wickets, against Sylhet Strikers by 30 runs, and against Khulna Tigers, a revenge victory, by 45 runs.
In the last few games, however, the Kings seem to have run out of steam. In the last four games, they have lost three games. The first against current opponents Rangpur Riders by 33 runs, against Fortune Barisal by 6 wickets, and a loss to Dhaka Capitals, which is one of the weakest teams of the tournament, by 8 wickets. The loss against Dhaka Capitals in the previous game would hurt them the most.
Dhaka Capitals are one of the weakest units of this season of Bangladesh Premier League. Batting first, Chittagong Kings managed just 148 for 6 against Dhaka Capitals. Despite several batters getting starts, no one could go on to convert that into a big-one. Naeem Aslam batting at the top of the order top scored with 44 of 40 balls. Defending a below-par score, Chittagong Kings lost the game in the 19th over. Batting is an issue for Chittagong Kings and they would need to be in top form to defeat someone like Rangpur Riders.
Key players: Naeem Islam, Graham Clark, Khaled Ahmed, Aliss Al Islam
Islam has scores of 44, 56 & 12 in his last three BPL matches, he is one of the highly experienced players in BPL and at Dhaka he averages 19 runs per innings in T20's. Given his current form we back Islam to score over 14 runs in today's match.

The weather on the match day at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur is expected to be pleasant with plenty of sunshine. The temperature will range between a high of 26°C and a low of 15°C. There is no significant chance of rain, making it a perfect day to play a cricket match.
The venue of the match is Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. Built in 2006, the stadium was later renamed Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. It has state-of-the-art facilities and has hosted several Tests, ODIs, and T20 International. It was one of the venues for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and T20 World Cup 2014. It has also hosted Asia Cup games along with games in domestic tournaments such as Bangladesh Premier League. The venue has a seating capacity of over 25,000 spectators.
We back the luck to be in favour of the Riders to win the coin toss in today's match.
A total of 63 T20Is have been played at Mirpur, with the teams bowling first, winning 32 games while the teams batting first, winning 31 games. It's an even 50-50 win record when it comes to the decision after the toss. However, in a short game, in such conditions, the teams winning the toss should bowl first and try to chase the target in good flat conditions.
With 8 straight wins, Rangpur Riders announced themselves as the top contender in Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25. The losses in the doubleheader against Darbar Rajshahi in the previous two games should not affect them much. One of them was anyway a close game. Chittagong Kings placed fourth in the table with 5 wins in 9 games and should not pose much threat to a team like Rangpur Riders. We believe Rangpur Riders will get back to winning in this game against Chittagong Kings to register their 9th victory of the season.
We predict that Rangpur Riders will defeat Chittagong Kings.
