With half of the Sheffield Shield teams unbeaten and the other half having lost one match, there is a dividing line in the table after only two rounds of fixtures. And with South Australia and Victoria both sitting above that line, they will both be approaching this game as an opportunity to take over at the top of the table from Western Australia.
The weather conditions look more favourable for the batters than usually seen at the Adelaide Oval but there is always something in the pitch for all kinds of bowlers and after three days being baked under the sun, spinners are sure to come into the reckoning on the final day.
The Border Gavaskar Trophy - Australia v India - also gets underway later this month so all players will be looking to prove their form and ability to deliver on this top domestic stage, when this game gets underway in Adelaide.
South Australia enjoyed the hard and bouncy surface up in Brisbane in their last game, posting scores of 314 and 352/9 declared, but they will need their batters to step up once again if they are to make it two wins in a row.
It was feast or famine for Henry Hunt at the top of the order who produced 136 at the top of the order in the first innings before falling to the first ball of South Australia's second innings! Alongside Conor McInerney, the pair have a solid opening partnership which should stand up to the bowling attack of Victoria in this match.
Jordan Buckingham has been one of South Australia's top bowlers so far in this campaign and has already picked up nine wickets. But the biggest danger to Victoria's batters is likely to come from Nathan McAndrew who took 8/93 across the match in Brisbane.

After failing to win any of their four previous Sheffield Shield games, Victoria finally got back to winning ways thanks to some solid batting displays and strong efforts with the ball against New South Wales in Match 4 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The four key batters for Victoria in that game were Campbell Kellaway, Peter Handscomb, Thomas Rogers and Sam Harper but Marcus Harris always capable of making big scores at this level and his will be a crucial wicket at the top of the order.
With the ball, Fergus O'Neill and Sam Elliott will both come into this game after taking four-wicket hauls at the MCG and, although they bowl at very different speeds, both right-arm bowlers could be key once again at the Adelaide Oval.

Three of the four scheduled days of this game will see sunny spells with highs of 21 degrees but day two is expected to be a real scorcher with the temperature above 31 degrees! It would be a surprise if there was any rain on any of the four days although there will be higher humidity levels across the final two.
Irrespective of the quality of batters on either side, the Adelaide Oval is one of the few top grounds in Australia where bowlers tend to have more success than batters! This will be the first four-day game at the venue this season and the last Test match here saw scores of 188, 283 and 120 across the first three innings. Any total of 300+ should be enough to win this game on a pitch which will assist pace and spin bowlers.
With the weather forecast indicating that the strongest heat will be coming on day two, we predict that both captains will go out for the toss wanting to field first on Friday morning.
Consistency goes a long way in the Sheffield Shield and South Australia have not lost a game in this tournament since mid-February last season. Both of their victories since then have been by over 100 runs and we expect them to pick up another victory in this match at the Adelaide Oval.
We are backing South Australia to win this game!
