Afghanistan Pathans didn’t get the start they were hoping for, falling to a six-wicket loss against Asian Stars. They put up a solid 216-3 after choosing to bat, but it wasn’t quite enough, as their opponents chased the target with just one ball remaining.

Despite the defeat, the team can take confidence from their batting display. Shoaib Khan’s unbeaten 104 off 63 balls was a standout effort, while captain Asghar Afghan added an important 65 off 36. Looking ahead, the team will want other key batters like Asad Pathan, Ayaan Khan, and Mausib Khan to step up.

Afghanistan had Asian Stars struggling at 32-3 early in the chase but couldn’t keep the pressure on, with the rest of the attack conceding too many runs. With limited experience in the bowling unit, a stronger effort will be needed in the upcoming games. Ashraf Pathan and Mahaboob Alam are the bowlers to watch in the next match.

Sri Lankan Lions too have started their season with a defeat. In their opening fixture, they went down by 46 runs to Indian Royals while chasing a target of 162. 

While the bowlers did a fantastic job, Sri Lanka’s batters failed to deliver, with only Lasith Lakshan (35 off 32) providing some resistance. 

Tillakaratne Dilshan failed in the first match, but the star Lankan veteran has loads of experience and could deliver a big innings here. A lot will also be expected from captain Thisara Perera as he has been playing in different leagues recently and has it in him to play a big knock. Raveen Sayer is another one who can make an impact with the bat in this game.

The bowlers did a much better job with Vikum Sanjaya ending with a spell of 4-23. Dilshan, Arul Pragasam, Thilan Thushara, and Upul Indrasiri were all among the wickets too. This Lankan bowling attack has plenty of depth and variety and will cause issues to the batters if the wicket holds up.

Fast bowlers will find some help early on, with the surface starting somewhat sticky but developing dusty areas as the evening progresses. After the 10-over mark, the clay-heavy soil can produce surprising spin, and the desert breezes flowing through the open east section may impact deliveries bowled at reduced pace. 

Weather conditions in Udaipur are expected to be clear and comfortable throughout the match, with zero possibility of rainfall interrupting play.

In the very first match of the Asian Legends League 2025, we saw both Afghanistan Pathans and Asian Stars post totals of over 215.
