Sunrisers Hyderabad Preview

Since they ended the league stage in the second position, Sunrisers Hyderabad have another shot at making the finals after losing Qualifier 1 to Kolkata Knight Riders. That was an off day for them, and Hyderabad will be hoping to put up a better fight against the Royals.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s openers have the biggest role in carrying the team to the plaoyffs this year. Travis Head (533 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 200) and Abhishek Sharma (470 runs in 14 innings at 207) have consistently provided the team with explosive starts, and Hyderabad will be counting on them for another electrifying opening stand in this game.

Both the openers fell early in Qualifier 1, and that resulted in a less-than-impressive showing with the bat from Hyderabad. 

Fortunately, Rahul Tripathi has started showing signs of terrific form since being called back to the eleven. In the previous game, he was the team’s highest scorer with a sublime 55 off 35 balls, when everyone else failed. 

Heinrich Klaasen is another game-changer with the bat who has been striking it at 180 this season. However, he has a tendency to give it away in crucial moments. We reckon, though, that he is due for a big one in this match.

Sunrisers’ bowling will depend on captain Pat Cummins (16 wickets in 14 innings at an economy of 9.41) and T Natarajan (18 wickets in 12 innings at 9.12). Bhuvneshwar Kumar is expected to keep things economical with his steady line and lengths.

Four straight defeats couldn't hold back the Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator! The team displayed newfound focus, chasing down 173 runs and winning by four wickets over Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The Royals will be delighted that star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal got some crucial runs under his belt in this all-important encounter. Jaiswal was the top-scorer for Rajasthan with a fluent 45 off 30 balls. His form can be detrimental for Rajasthan in Qualifier 2.

Another batter the Royals will look up to is Riyan Parag (567 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 151). The middle-order batter has had a breakthrough season, where he has consistently saved his team after sudden fall of wickets. In the Eliminator, his composed 36 off 26 balls helped a great deal in taking the team over the line. 

Sanju Samson (521 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 155) has blown hot and cold over the last few games, but the captain is a clutch player and we expect a vital contribution from him in this game.

Also, watch out for Rovman Powell and Shimron Hetmyer, the two dangerous finishers of Rajasthan Royals. These two have shown their little cameos can have a massive impact, and there’s a good chance one or both of these two will produce a crucial performance in this game. 

Rajasthan’s bowling is in good shape too, with Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, and Avesh Khan picking up regular wickets. Boult is looking sharp and should enjoy bowling on this wicket.

Rajasthan’s spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal (18 wickets in 14 innings at an economy of 9.48) and Ravichandran Ashwin (9 wickets in 13 innings at 8.31), have done a fantastic job this season and should do well on Chennai’s slow surface. Ashwin was the player of the match of the Eliminator, with incredible figures of 19-2 from his 4 overs. Ashwin will be the Royals’ main weapon in Qualifier 2 as the match will be played on the off-spinner’s home ground.
