The sixth fixture in the CSA T20 Challenge 2025 sees Western Province take on North West. Western Province had a solid run in the previous edition, though they'll want to push for the title this year. North West lost their opening game and need a win to steady the ship early.

Western Province Preview

Western Province were among the more reliable teams in the CSA T20 Challenge 2024 league stage, picking up four wins from seven games to finish third. They eventually lost to the Titans in the Qualifier and will be looking to go one better this time.

Their batting will once again look to Edward Moore to do the bulk of the scoring. Moore had a standout campaign last year, scoring 328 runs in eight innings at an average of 66 and a strike rate of 141.37. He will anchor the batting unit, bringing some stability with the bat. With a few key players unavailable due to national commitments, David Bedingham could play a significant role, given his extensive experience.

Daniel Smith should also play an important role in the middle order, having chipped in 126 runs in seven innings last season. Mihlali Mpongwana and Valentine Kitime are our picks for the other batters who can make an impact in this batting unit with 20-30 run contributions.

In the bowling department, Wesley Bedja is expected to take charge. He picked up 10 wickets last season and kept producing crucial breakthroughs. Mthiwekhaya Nabe and Beuran Hendricks will also have a role to play, having delivered 11 wickets combined last time out.

Western Province Predicted Playing XI:

Daniel Smith (wk), Sello Valentine Kitime, Joshua van Heerden, Beuran Hendricks (c), Wesley Bedja, Oliver Whitehead, Mthiwekhaya Nabe, Jonathan Bird, Edward Moore, David Bedingham, Jiveshan Pillay

North West Preview

North West didn’t start their season the way they would’ve liked. Chasing a target of 149 against Boland, they fell short by nine runs, which will leave them disappointed.

The match didn’t go their way, but there were some positives to take away for North West. Janneman Malan held one end with a solid 50 off 49, while Ludwich Schuld added a brisk 30 from 21 at the top. They gave the innings a decent push early on, but the middle order couldn’t build on it. On a pitch that wasn’t easy to score on, Lesiba Ngoepe’s lively 24 from 16 balls helped push the total to something more competitive.

Looking ahead, North West will want better support for Wihan Lubbe, who led their batting charts in the previous campaign with 262 runs from seven knocks at a strike rate of 157. Meeka eel Prince delivered handy contributions with the bat last year and should provide similar solidity again.

With the ball, Shimane Alfred Mothoa was the standout in the opener, picking up 3 for 32 in his four overs. Lubbe and Caleb Seleka kept things tight, while taking one wicket apiece, while Ruan de Swardt chipped in with one wicket as well.

North West Predicted Playing XI:

Meeka eel Prince (wk), Ludwich Schuld, Janneman Malan, Wihan Lubbe (c), Lesiba Ngoepe, Diego Rosier, Dian Forrester, Ruan de Swardt, Jade de Klerk, Caleb Seleka, Shimane Alfred Mothoa

Weather Conditions

Day matches at Newlands tend to play slower than expected, with the surface gripping slightly as the game goes on. The ball doesn’t always come nicely onto the bat, so placement matters more than power. The square boundaries are shorter, inviting shots behind point and midwicket.

The weather in Cape Town will be mostly sunny and pleasant through the day.

WPR vs NWEST Pitch Report

The average score batting first at Newlands is 151. Anything above 165 can challenge teams, especially when bowlers hit back of a length into the pitch.

Toss: To Bat

Three of the last four matches played at Newlands have been won by the chasing side. Seeing these numbers, the toss-winning captain might be tempted to field first in this game.

It’s shaping up to be a close battle between Western Province and North West. Both teams have plenty of match-winners in their ranks, and this matchup could go either way. That said, Western Province's batting unit does look a little deeper, which could give them a small advantage. But if the side batting first gets to anything around 175, they’re likely to take control of the game from there.

Back Western Province as the winners of this match.
