Brighton set down a marker against Manchester United in midweek, outplaying the team currently in 4th place to take a very late 1-0 victory.

It was a win that keeps their hopes alive of a European finish at the end of the season. Indeed, they could move into 5th place if they win their three games in hand over Liverpool and Tottenham.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men continue to impress, particularly at the Amex Stadium, and will be hard to stop between now and the end of the season.

Everton, on the other hand, have lost their way over the past month or so, after starting life positively under Sean Dyche.

The Toffees have now played seven games since their last victory and hope seems to be fizzling out for a team that doesn’t have too many chances remaining.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Beat Everton 4-1 earlier in the season

Won eight of their last 10 home games, keeping seven clean sheets

Reasons to be fearful:

Just one win from 12 Monday kick-offs

Lost to Everton at home last season

Brighton’s confidence and quality means that none of their remaining six opponents this season will fancy playing them in this form.

The Seagulls have to face Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester City before the end of the season, but Brighton will push all of them close based on recent results and performances.

Although they left it very, very late to beat Manchester United in midweek, it was a result they very much deserved. It means that they can still finish in 5th place this season, if they win their games in hand.

Brighton’s home form has been excellent throughout much of the season, claiming nine clean sheets in total, including seven from their last 10.

They thrashed Everton earlier this season and it’ll take a spirited performance from the Toffees to stop the same happening again.

Star Man – Alexis Mac Allister

He held his nerve to take the winning penalty against Manchester United in midweek and was largely excellent throughout. He was head and shoulders above the midfielders of Brighton’s opponents.

Everton FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Sean Dyche is unbeaten in all five away games against Brighton

Still just a point away from safety despite poor form

Reasons to be fearful

Winless in their previous 18 away games against top-half teams

Taken four points from the last 21 available

Like a few teams down there, Everton are lucky that other clubs haven’t been able to pull away from safety while they themselves are in such poor form.

The Toffees have taken just four points from their last seven games, a statistic that just isn’t good enough for a team in Everton’s situation.

They’ve also been poor on their travels throughout the season, failing to win any of their last 13, and any of their previous 18 against teams in the top half.

Seamus Coleman suffered a serious knee injury in Everton’s 2-2 and will miss the rest of the season, while Ben Godfrey remains out.

Amadou Onana has recovered from injury and could play a part here.

Star Man – Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin’s return from continued injury concerns is a boost for Sean Dyche, but the team must start playing better, otherwise these last four games will be painful for the Toffees.

     Brighton will command possession

The Seagulls can pick Everton’s weak defence off

Everton must make the most of set pieces

No team would relish playing Brighton at the Amex Stadium right now, particularly one fighting to remain a Premier League team such as Everton.

The Toffees are in serious trouble, especially with the teams they still have to play this season. Sean Dyche has worked wonders before, but he needs to earn points that he’s not expected to here.

Brighton are in such a rich vein of form and they are unlikely to take their foot off the gas here.
