The Proteas have qualified for the final fixture of the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. However, their real test will be during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. South Africa has always come out as the underdogs in the ICC tournaments and they have failed to win a major trophy on multiple occasions.
However, in the books of history, the South Africa cricket team will go down as the team that won the first-ever ICC Champions Trophy that took place in 1998. However, since then, the team has failed to perform well in the tournament.
South Africa will be under the leadership of Temba Bavuma. He has done well in the Test format for the team and now the time has come for him to lead the team to greater goodness in the ICC Champions Trophy. The betting sites will keep a close eye on Temba’s captaincy and the result of the team.
Even before the start of the tournament, South Africa has received a big blow. Anrich Nortje, who made his comeback to the team after a long time of absence, has been ruled out because of a back injury. He has not played any international cricket since the T20 World Cup 2024 and was expected to make his comeback in the Champions Trophy. He will be replaced by Corbin Bosch.
Fast bowler Kwena Maphaka has also been named in the squad but as a travelling reserve. The Proteas will also be without Gerald Coetzee who is currently recovering from a groin injury. Beuran Hendricks and Lizaad Williams are the two other injuries in the South African camp.
In this article, we bring you a detailed SWOT Analysis of South Africa and the winning odds as per the legal betting apps in India.

Strength
The Proteas come up with one of the best batting lineups. They have Tony de Zorzi, skipper Temba Bavuma, and Rassie van der Dussen will form the top order for the team. Tony de Zorzi is one of the most dependable batters for South Africa at the top. He has done well in the 50-over format and can provide a balanced start against any pace attack.

The wicket-keeper batter Heinrich Klaasen will be another key player to watch out for. He was the leading run-scorer for South Africa in the ODI format in 2024. Klassen will be expected to anchor the innings in the middle order and score runs against the deadliest spin attack on Pakistan pitches.

Weakness
After multiple injuries in the bowling unit, South Africa’s weakness lies in their bowling unit. They are coming up to play the Champions Trophy with some new names in the squad but that does not solve the problem.
Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi are the two experienced bowlers who will be playing the key role for the team in every fixture. However, South Africa’s other weakness is their below-average spin attack. Considering the pitches of Pakistan, South Africa will suffer with their spin bowling as Tabraiz Shamsi is the only full-time spin option available for the team.
Opportunity
Marco Jansen is one name that has seen a sudden rise in his career from South Africa. He has the momentum going on and that makes him the biggest opportunity for the team. Marco Jansen has shown positive performance in the ODI format and in T20 cricket leagues.

Threat
South Africa has come out as the choker when it comes to the ICC tournaments. On many occasions, they perform well at the group stage but suddenly, the team ends up taking undue pressure when they reach the semi-final and final stage. Their pattern of losing crucial semi-final and final games because of undue pressure is the biggest threat to the Proteas squad.
