Mohammad Nawaz accepts ICC anti-doping sanction after positive test

Pakistan spinner Mohammad Nawaz has accepted a sanction under the ICC Anti-Doping Code after testing positive for a prohibited substance. The 32-year-old tested positive for a Substance of Abuse (Carboxy-THC) after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 7 February.
According to the ICC media release, Nawaz accepted a three-month period of ineligibility, backdated to 1 May 2026, the date he started a voluntary provisional suspension.
That period will be reduced to one month on completion of a substance of abuse treatment programme, and he will not be required to serve any further period of ineligibility if he completes the programme to the ICC's satisfaction.
Nawaz admitted the anti-doping rule violation and demonstrated that the substance had been used out-of-competition and in a manner unrelated to sport performance.
The ICC also said his records from the match against the Netherlands on 7 February and in subsequent matches until 1 May 2026 have been disqualified.
Nawaz is part of the Lanka Premier League 2026 season representing the Galle Galants side briingong his expericne with the bat down the order and also with his left arm spin in the middle overs.
