New Zealand is coming back in action after their ODI series loss against Sri Lanka by 2-0. However, their Test squad can stay motivated because of their 3-0 series win against India in India.
Tom Latham will be the leading man for the team. He will be expected to get a positive result for the team considering the results he got against India. The management has shown trust in Latham and stability in the leadership role for New Zealand in Test cricket is a positive sign.
Kane Williamson, one of the Fab4 in Test cricket, is making his return after missing out on Test action due to his groin injury. His return will give the much-needed depth to the team in the batting unit.
Nathan Smith has been called for the Test squad and he will be expected to receive his maiden cap in the red-ball format. The Wellington all-rounder has already made his debut for the team in the ODI format. Nathan Smith was the leading wicket-taker for Wellington in the previous edition of the Plunket Shield.

Bear Sears (knee) and Kyle Jamieson (back) are two players who won’t be part of the series because of their respective injuries. Jacob Duffy has been announced as the new pacer in the team. Duffy was the 2nd highest wicket-taker in the previous edition of the Plunkett Shield.

Ajaz Patel, the 3rd highest wicket-taker against India in the Test series, has been dropped from the series against England. This is a shocking decision made by the management and the pressure is on Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner for wickets in the spin bowling.
