Rohit Sharma urges team to look beyond T20 World Cup triumph, Eyes upcoming challenges

After the euphoria of lifting the T20 World Cup, India skipper Rohit Sharma has called for his team to shift focus to the challenges ahead, as the national team gears up for a packed cricketing calendar under the guidance of new head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Speaking ahead of the first ODI against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma emphasized the need to move forward and concentrate on upcoming assignments. “I had a good time off from cricket. It was a great feeling to come back home after winning the World Cup...what we experienced in Delhi and Mumbai. But yeah, now we have to move on, cricket moves on,” Rohit said.

The Indian team, fresh from their T20 World Cup triumph, has entered a new phase with Gambhir at the helm. The ongoing white-ball series against Sri Lanka marks the beginning of a journey that promises to be filled with high-stakes encounters, including the much-anticipated Champions Trophy early next year.

Rohit’s call to refocus is indicative of the Indian team’s mindset as they prepare to build on their recent success. With Gambhir’s tactical acumen and Rohit’s leadership, the team is poised to tackle the upcoming season with renewed vigour and determination. The Indian cricket fraternity is keenly watching how this new chapter unfolds, with expectations running high.

As Rohit pointed out, the World Cup win was a momentous occasion, but the demands of international cricket require continuous evolution. The Indian captain’s focus is now squarely on the challenges that lie ahead, signalling a shift from celebration to preparation.

When Will BCCI Announce India Squad for IND vs BAN Series?

With a break in what is typically a packed cricketing calendar, the anticipation is building. India's tour of Sri Lanka wrapped up on August 7, and their next international assignment is scheduled to begin on September 19 with the first of the two-match Test series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The nearly month-long gap between these fixtures has left fans eagerly awaiting the return of cricket action. It’s now being reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the India squad for the home series against Bangladesh soon.

According to a report by SportsTak, the BCCI could unveil the squad as early as next week. The report also indicates that performances in the first round of the Duleep Trophy are unlikely to significantly influence team selection. This series is expected to mark the return of Virat Kohli to Test cricket for the first time since January, with Rohit Sharma leading the side. Additionally, Rishabh Pant is likely to make his comeback in the red-ball setup following his recovery from the injuries sustained in his accident.

Who Could Make It to India’s Squad for the Bangladesh Series?

The India squad is not expected to see drastic changes. Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel could be in contention for the Test side, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are almost certain to feature in both the Test and T20I squads. Moreover, Ravindra Jadeja is anticipated to return to action for the first time since the T20 World Cup 2024, along with Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the Sri Lanka tour.

The squad announcement is highly anticipated, as fans look forward to seeing who will represent India in this crucial series against Bangladesh.
