Punjab are off to a great start this year. They beat Maharashtra in their opening match, the same opposition that had knocked them out in the quarter-finals last year. Chhattisgarh, on the other hand, has a lot of work to do as they moves ahead in the tournament.
After winning just 2 of their 7 matches last year, Chhattisgarh have started on a losing note in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Mayank Verma and skipper Amandeep Khare were the only batters to make a significant contribution to the team’s total.
Khare will be hoping for a better start from his openers, while also requiring the middle-order batters Sanjeet Desai and Vikalp Tiwari to rise to the occasion.
Punjab’s batting is a powerhouse that features Prabhsimran Singh, Abhishek Sharma, and Anmolpreet Singh in the top order. Though they have Shubman Gill in the squad, the India captain did not make it to the XI in the opening round.
Naman Dhir looked in great touch in the middle order, and that is great news for Punjab going ahead this year. There is depth in the batting and also a great variety in the bowling attack. We expect them to dominate the opposition in this match.

After a steady start to their innings against Goa, Chhattisgarh started losing wickets at regular intervals. Anuj Tiwary was the first wicket to fall, and his opening partner soon followed suit.
If it wasn’t for Mayank Verma and skipper Khare’s 114-run partnership for the fourth wicket, Chhattisgarh would not have even crossed the 200-run mark. After the partnership was broken, Chhattisgarh lost their remaining 6 wickets for just 55 runs.
Batting has been a serious issue for quite some time. Last year, they were bowled out for 80 runs while batting first against Vidarbha. The only time they dominated with the bat was against J&K while chasing down a massive 338-run total.
Sanjeet Desai and Ashutosh Singh were the top performers in that run chase, while skipper Amandeep Khare led them to a win over Chandigarh with an unbeaten hundred at number 4. Singh wasn’t part of the XI in the last outing, and we expect Chattisgarh to rope him in for this match.
The bowling hasn’t been a strong suit for Chattisgarh. There is plenty of room for improvement in the bowling department as well. Ravi Kiran and Shubham Agarwal are the key bowlers in this squad to watch out for. The former is known for his economical spell and will be crucial in helping Chhattisgarh get on top.

Shubman Gill and Arshdeep Singh were left out of the XI in the opening match. The two are match-winning players in their respective departments. The good news for Punjab is the top-order batters’ form. Prabhsimran Singh and Abhishek Sharma delivered a 101-run partnership for the first wicket.
After the two were back in the hut, Naman Dhir and Anmolpreet Singh built a 156-run stand for the 3rd wicket. Dhir’s 97 off 78 balls was an impactful performance in the middle order that set Punjab on track for a big total.
Abhishek Sharma will be confident of his team’s ability to put on another competitive total at this venue as they take on Chhattisgarh in this game. The opposition doesn’t have a strong bowling attack that can trouble Punjab’s in-form batters.
With Ramandeep Singh and Harpreet Brar in the lower order, there is depth in this batting lineup. We expect another strong outing with the bat for Punjab. If Arshdeep Singh makes it to the XI, he will deliver a strong, match-winning performance with the ball.
However, in his absence, Sukdeep Bajwa, Raghu Sharma, and Krish Bhagat will be the ones to watch out for. Harpreet Brar is also a promising option in the bowling attack, who can deliver economical spells while picking up a wicket or two.

We expect partly cloudy skies over Jaipur around the start of the game, and it will get sunny as the match progresses, with a high of 22 degrees Celsius. There are no signs of rain, and hence, we don’t expect any weather interruptions during the match.
It looks like a batting-friendly wicket at the Anantam Ground in Jaipur. In the only match played here this season, the team batting first scored 347 runs and won the match by 51 runs. There is plenty of help for the batters in both innings, and the team batting first should aim for something over 320 runs to be in a competitive position.
There were no matches played at this venue last year. And in this season, there has been just one game here that went in favor of the team batting first. It looks like a great venue for batting, and both teams will be looking to defend a total in this match. Chhattisgarh are better off not chasing a total set by the mighty Punjab.
Punjab will go into this match with the upper hand. They have a much stronger overall squad, particularly their batting lineup. Chhattisgarh haven’t managed to find other reliable players in the side, and their batting woes are far from over. Punjab will start as favorites in our match prediction.
