Guyana Amazon Warriors had a fantastic CPL 2024 where they reached the finals of the tournament but eventually lost the final to St. Lucia Kings. The team secured the top spot in the standings and will be looking to perform well in the GSL 2024.
The Amazon Warriors will be under the leadership of Imran Tahir, who guided them to their inaugural Caribbean Premier League championship last year.
Guyana have quite a few batting stars in their squad such as Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Moeen Ali, and Dwaine Pretorius.
Hetmyer was Guyana’s leading run-getter in this year’s CPL, amassing 402 runs in 13 innings at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 185. Hope was next on the list with 391 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 135.
All-rounders Romario Shepherd and Moeen Ali add more batting depth to the side.
Tahir and Moeen will be very handy on the Guyana surface with their spin bowling. The two combined took 31 wickets in CPL 2024.
USA-based left-arm spinner Hassan Khan and Bangladeshi fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib are likely to share the new ball.

Lahore Qalandars had a forgettable Pakistan Super League 2024, finishing at the bottom of the table with just one win from 10 matches. They will be eager to put that performance behind them and start afresh in the GSL.
At the heart of the Lahore Qalandars are key players like Pakistan’s all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, wicket-keeper batter Muhammad Akhlaq, explosive opener Mirza Tahir Baig, along with leg-spinner Arif Yaqoob.
The international roster features standout names, including South Africa’s left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, West Indies’ versatile all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, and talented English players like Tom Abell, Luke Wells, and Adam Rossington. Rounding out the overseas talent is Canadian pacer Kaleem Sana, adding valuable depth to the bowling lineup.
Rossington has loads of experience with over 3,300 T20 runs and will lead this batting unit.
Brathwaite has played his entire career on these wickets and will play an important part for the Qalandars with the bat and ball.
Shamsi will be a threat on this surface as it will assist spin.

The pitch at Providence Stadium is typically a really good batting surface that tends to get slower as the game goes on. There is always some assistance for the spinners here and the likes of Roston Chase, Imran Tahir, and Tabraiz Shamsi will make life difficult for batters in the middle overs.
The weather in Guyana will be partly cloudy with chances of scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. This means the match might get affected.

The average first innings score at Providence Stadium is 154.
In this year’s CPL, the highest total posted at the venue was 219-8 by
Guyana Amazon Warriors against Barbados Royals. They won that match by
47 runs. If the Amazon Warriors bat first in this match, they will
target a score of around 180-190 runs. If Lahore Qalandars, they are
likely to get to a total of around 150-160 runs.
Batting first is usually the better choice at Providence Stadium. In this year’s CPL, seven of the eleven games played at the venue were won by the team batting first.
Guyana Amazon Warriors will be eager to start the GSL with a win. They are the home side and were in excellent form in the CPL this year. In contrast, Lahore Qalandars have had a tough year and have a new-look squad for the tournament. The team appears to have plenty of inexperienced players who might take a few games to get used to these conditions. The Amazon Warriors look well-balanced and have plenty of depth in their squad. We reckon they will dominate this contest.
Guyana Amazon Warriors are favorites to start the season with a win!
