The blockbuster Sunday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 this weekend kicks-off with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hosting the Rajasthan Royals. The game will be played on Sunday, April 19 from 3:30 p.m. Indian Standard Time at the Eden Gardens.
The Kolkata Knight Riders are going through their worst start yet in the history of the competition, losing 5 out of 6 games and regained only one point from a washout game against Punjab Kings. Rajasthan Royals on the other hand have been one of the best teams in the competition this season, winning four matches and lost only one, the last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Both teams have been a part of the IPL since the inaugural season and have shared a close rivalry. KKR lead with 16 wins to Rajasthan’s 14 wins. The Knight Riders just only got the advantage in this head-to-head rivalry after winning both the matches in IPL 2025. But it's a different story this time, RR is flying high, the Knights are struggling.
In this game, KKR would be looking at Sunil Narine again if he is pushed to opening again having scored 268 runs at a strike rate of 164.44, otherwise it's a team that has very little experience against the Royals. With the ball, again Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy have done exceedingly well vs RR. The duo have combined 26 wickets, 13 each, although Varun's form is iffy.
As for the Rajasthan Royals, they will be looking at Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has probably played some of his best IPL matches against KKR having scored 202 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 166.96 and average of 40.40. RR have also got spin bowlers who have played well vs the Knight Riders. New signing Jadeja has taken 20 wickets vs KKR while local lad Ravi Bishnoi has bagged 11 wickets too.

IPL 2023
Rajasthan Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 9 wickets
151/1 in 13.1
The Kolkata Knight Riders are currently going through their worst phase ever, resulting in 5 defeats in 6 games and just 1 point from a washout game against Punjab Kings, their worst start to an IPL campaign, sitting at the bottom of the points table.
The 2024 champions suffered big defeats against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings and lost in tightly fought contests against Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans in the last game.
Captain Ajinkya Rahane made a strange call to bat first winning toss despite the potential of dew impacting the game. His decision was proved wrong as Knights were soon reduced to 32/3 within the first 4 overs. From there, Cameron Green played a fantastic knock of 79 runs off 55 balls that helped KKR post 180 on the board.
But Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill made light work of it and GT were cruising to victory. Then the KKR bowlers managed to spring a comeback but eventually lost the game by 5 wickets with 2 balls remaining.
The Kolkata Knight Riders have a star-studded squad that is yet to deliver performance. Young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi is the top run scorer with 190 runs in 6 innings at a strike rate of 157.02 and average of 38.00. Captain Ajinkya Rahane has scored 152 runs and received criticism for lack of impactful performance and his captaincy blunders so far.
Cameron Green has had a terrible start to life at KKR having scored 56 runs in first 5 innings including getting out for single digits three times. But after his crucial knock of 79 runs in the last game, his total runs tally is now 135 runs at a strike rate of 143.62. He seems to be finding his groove again.
Another area of concern for the Kolkata Knight Riders is their overseas opening slot. So far they have tried Finn Allen, Tim Seifert and Sunil Narine for one game. The Caribbean scored 24 runs while opening vs CSK while Finn Allen scored only 81 runs in 5 innings at an extraordinary strike rate of 192.86.
But his failure to put big scores on the board eventually resulted in him getting dropped vs GT in which Tim Seifert scored only 19 runs. We believe KKR might be back with Allen to open the innings.
As for bowling, with injuries to key bowlers like Harshit Rana, Akash Deep, Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman ruled out of the season due to conflicts, KKR have relied on Vaibhav Arora and Kartik Tyagi to deliver breakthroughs. Arora has taken 7 wickets while Tyagi has looked most effective but only taken 5 wickets.
The Knights have two of the very best spin bowlers in the world in Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. Sunil has taken 4 wickets and bowled economically, Varun’s been struggling with form but seems to be getting in the rhythm again with 2 wickets vs Gujarat.
Meanwhile, the big news going into the match for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is that Matheesha Pathirana might finally be available for this game after getting his NOC from Sri Lanka Cricket.
Rovman Powell Total Runs Over 17.5 @ 1.85
Rovman Powell has scored a total of 97 runs in 4 matches, averaging close to 25. He has scored past 20 runs in three of the last four matches played and is one of the key batters in the middle order.
Cameron Green Total Runs Over 21.5 @ 1.85
After four low scores, Cameron Green is finally up and running in the IPL 2026, where he scored 80 runs in the last match against the Gujarat Titans. In the last two matches he has scored past 30 runs, as he is back to form, we back Green to score over 21 runs in today's match against the Royals.
Finn Allen, Ajinkya Rahane (C), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (WK), Cameron Green, Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Sunil Narine, Kartik Tyagi, Vaibhav Arora, Matheesha Pathirana. Impact Player: Varun Chakravarthy.

The Rajasthan Royals are looking to satisfy their hunger for their 2nd IPL Trophy and IPL 2026 could be the season for the side in pink. Rajasthan won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008 under the legendary Shane Warne, but since then, they have failed to add another to their trophy cabinet.
This season, the Royals are in fine form. The Riyan Parag led team has 4 wins in 5 games and the one and only loss came against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last game where they just about saved their face from humility.
Chasing 217, RR had lost 5 wickets for 9 runs and the infamous 49 all-out record held by RCB was in serious threat. But from there, Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira rescued the ship. They would be hoping to get back to winning ways from this game.
Rajasthan Royals’ new superstar batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has begun the new season right where he left-off last season. This season, he has so far scored 200 runs in 5 innings at a strike rate of 263.16 and an average of 40.00. He has so far scored two half-centuries including 52 (17) vs CSK and his highest score this season is 78 (26) vs RCB, showcasing his ability to play important knocks against big teams.
His opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal has been scoring runs from his end too. The India international batter has scored 184 runs in 5 innings at a strike rate of 157.26 and average of 61.33. His best performance this season is 77* (31) vs Mumbai Indians. Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal have been complementing each other very well which is giving Rajasthan very good starts in the powerplay.
Meanwhile wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel is getting consistent opportunities at number 3 and he is taking full advantage of that. He has played some key knocks including a spectacular 81 runs unbeaten off 43 balls vs RCB that played a pivotal role in the side’s victory. While it's all going well for the Royals, their captain Riyan Parag hasn't enjoyed a good season so far, playing lower than his preferred number 3 spot and scoring only 48 runs in 5 innings.
Just like their batters, bowlers have put-up combined efforts to the success of the team this season. Local lad Ravi Bishnoi is impressing everyone in his debut season for his local team, bagging 9 wickets so far, including his best performance of 4/41 vs Gujarat Titans.
Pace trio of Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger and Sandeep Sharma have all delivered as per expectations so far. Archer has been a lethal thorn in RR’s bowling unit, taking 7 wickets while Burger and Sandeep Sharma played the supportive role very well, taking 5 wickets each.
Debutant Brijesh Sharma has impressed in every opportunity he got so far this season, taking 3 wickets, same as Ravindra Jadeja and Tushar Deshpande, the more experienced ones.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Total Runs Over 27.5 @ 1.85
Jaiswal also failed to score runs in the last match, after scoring over 30 runs for four consecutive matches this season. He has scored a total of 184 runs in 5 matches, averaging 61.33. On a good batting track at the Eden Garden's, Jaiswal will look to bounce back and we predict him to score over 27 runs in today's match.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Total Runs Over 24.5 @ 1.85
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed for a first ball duck in the last match against SRH. A rare failure from him this season. He has scored 200 runs in 5 matches this season. smashing two half centuries and two scores of over 25 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Riyan Parag (C), Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Ravindra Jadeja, Donovan Ferreira, Jofra Archer, Tushar Deshpande, Ravi Bishnoi, Nandre Burger. Impact Player: Sandeep Sharma.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Donovan Ferreira, Shimron Hetmyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Ravindra Jadeja, Brijesh Sharrma, Jofra Archer, Ravi Bishnoi, Nandre Burger
On Sunday, April 19 the weather forecast in and around the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, expect a hot and sunny day with the temperature reaching highs around 37-38°C and could drop to 26-27°C. Skies will stay mostly clear with light winds. There is 0% probability of precipitation so there is no rain threat for the match.
The pitch at Eden Gardens, Kolkata for IPL 2026 is a batting-friendly surface with a flat, true bounce that allows stroke-makers to play their shots confidently from the start. The quick outfield and short boundaries often lead to high-scoring games.
Pacers may get some early movement or swing with the new ball, but the surface settles down quickly. Spinners can find a bit of grip in the middle overs, though it's not a big turner. Dew could play a role as well. The first innings average score at the venue is 169 and somewhere between 170-200 is par score.
KKR to win the coin toss @ 1.90
We back KKR to win the coin toss in today's match against RR.
The captain that wins the toss, would definitely prefer to bowl first. The Eden Gardens is a batting paradise that stays the same throughout the game. Bowling first and try to get the opposition out around the par score and chasing would be the way to go. In 103 T20s at the venue, 59 times we have seen the bowling first team win.
Rajasthan Royals are strong favorites to beat Kolkata Knight Riders. In-form RR (4 wins, 1 loss) boast explosive batting with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (200 runs, SR 263) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (184 runs), plus a potent bowling attack led by Ravi Bishnoi (9 wickets) and Jofra Archer (7 wickets). Struggling KKR (1 win, 5 losses) sit at the bottom with inconsistent batting and bowling performance.
