Mumbai have started the Ranji Trophy Elite 2026-27 season in dominant fashion, securing two comprehensive innings victories and sitting near the top of Elite Group D. They crushed Chandigarh by an innings and 155 runs after posting 429 at Wankhede, then followed it up with an innings and 97 run win over Himachal Pradesh, declaring at a massive 528 for 8.
The batting has looked deep and consistent, while the bowling has repeatedly dismantled opposition line-ups. Siddhesh Lad has led from the front as captain and top run scorer with 173 runs in two innings, scoring 86 runs in the first game and 87 runs in the following.
Sarfaraz Khan has been in sparkling form with 155 runs, highlighted by a commanding 154 against Himachal Pradesh. Wicketkeeper-batter Akash Anand has added 139 runs, including a century (117), while Musheer Khan has contributed 122 runs.
The bowling attack has been equally impressive. Tushar Deshpande leads the wicket-takers with 13 wickets in four innings and has been a constant threat with the new ball.
Mohit Avasthi has backed him up strongly with 10 wickets, including a five-wicket haul against Himachal Pradesh in the last game. Sylvester D’Souza has 6 wickets, while Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian have chipped in usefully with the ball.

Haryana have also made an excellent start to the season, winning both their opening matches convincingly and topping the early Group D standings. They defeated Himachal Pradesh by 7 wickets after posting 296 and chasing down a modest target, then completed an innings and 24 run victory over Chandigarh inside two days, bowling them out for 103 and 118 while scoring 245 themselves.
Yashvardhan Dalal has been the leading run scorer with 167 runs in two innings, including a fine 95 against Chandigarh. All-rounder Nishant Sindhu has been outstanding, scoring 92 in one innings and taking 6 wickets overall (including a match-winning 6/27 in the second innings against Chandigarh).
Ankit Kumar has 69 runs across three innings, while Kanishk Chouhan (57 runs) and Himanshu Rana (52 runs) have provided useful contributions.
The bowling has been shared effectively. Nishant Sindhu, Anshul Kamboj, Aman Kumar and Kanishk Chouhan all have 6 wickets each, with Parth Vats bagging 5. The attack has mixed pace and spin well to exploit helpful conditions.

The weather forecast in Mumbai on matchday is likely to be mostly clear to partly cloudy skies with hot conditions. High temperatures are expected around 33-35°C, and lows near 27°C. Very low chance of rain throughout the period with probability of precipitation less than 10% on all four days.
The red-soil surface typically offers a balanced, result-oriented contest. Early moisture and any green cover assist pacers with bounce and seam movement in the first session or two. Once it dries, the pitch provides true bounce that allows batters to score freely. Spinners can come into play as the surface wears and develops cracks later in the match.
The captain who win the toss might opt to bat first. The surface is at its best for batting at the start of the game while bowlers take control as the pitch wears out.
Mumbai are slight favourites at home. Both sides have started the season perfectly with two big wins, but Mumbai’s deeper batting led by Siddhesh Lad (173 runs), Sarfaraz Khan (155), plus Tushar Deshpande’s 13 wickets give them the edge. Haryana’s Nishant Sindhu has been outstanding with bat and ball, yet Mumbai’s overall quality and home advantage should tip a high-quality contest their way.
