Royal Challengers Bengaluru are down and out. Their weak bowling attack is in shambles after the hammering from MI at Wankhede, and the batsmen haven’t been able to put daunting totals on board to give their wobbly bowling attack some cushion. They’re going to come up against SRH, a team that outdid MI in boundary hitting a week or two ago to come up with the tournament’s highest score across all seasons.
Will RCB bowlers find a way to contain SRH’s free spirited batsmen at Chinnaswamy stadium, which is renowned for producing several high scoring encounters in the history of IPL? Or, perhaps, will RCB batsmen be able to challenge SRH batsmen in the modern-day art of range hitting? RCB’s overall head to head record against SRH stands 10-12 at the moment, although they hold the edge in the past 5 encounters, leading 3-2. But RCB look a bit out of depth and depleted with 5 defeats in 6 games.
Will they be able to turn things around against SRH?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have come back to base after two back to back defeats away from home against RR and MI. Virat Kohli, the leading run-scorer and orange cap holder of the tournament as yet, has given RCB some great starts. But the star batsman hasn’t had much support from other batsmen. Dinesh Karthik, coming down the order, has finished with a big flourish in most matches. But the rest of the batting group has been pretty ordinary.
The Aussie duo, Maxwell (32 runs from 6 games) and Green (68 runs from 5 games), have had a shocking run so far. Against MI at Wankhede, Faf du Plessis (61 off 40) and Patidar (50 off 26) gave us a glimpse of what they’re capable of doing at the top if they get going. But, sadly, for RCB, their batsmen have let the team down.
Their bowling attack lacks bite and allows opposition to dominate them. They gave away close to 200 runs in less than 16 overs, with everyone that came on to bowl going for roughly 11 runs per over. None of the bowlers are in good form and bowling consistently good line and length to test the batsmen. That puts added pressure on batsmen to score 30 or 40 runs above par so they can stay alive in the game and take it deeper even if their bowlers get carted all over the park.
The RCB batsmen haven’t been able to do that so far, and have paid the price- losing 5 out of 6 games.
The run-machine and orange cap holder of IPL 2024, Virat Kohli has scored 188 runs in three matches played at Bengaluru this season. His numbers are just outstanding at this venue (2882 runs in 85 matches) and given his recent form, we back Kohli to score over 31.5 runs in today's IPL match.

Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers hung on and closed out a nervy encounter against Punjab Kings in which a late order attack from Shashank and Ashutosh almost snatched the game away. But the best part is a new hero stood up for the SRH even when Head, Abhishek, Markram and Klaasen all had a disappointing night. Picking up from where he left off in the CSK game, 20-year-old Nitish Kumar Reddy smashed the bowlers all over the park to score a handy 64 (37) to give SRH their first away victory of the season at Mullanpur.
Abdul Samad and Shahbaz Ahmed were crucial in taking SRH to a par score, which ultimately proved just beyond the reach of the hosts Punjab Kings. Bowling-wise, Pat Cummins has been leading them from the front with his smart variation in pace, line and length. Their pace-heavy attack has restricted opposition batsmen to a manageable total, with Bhuvneshwar bowling out most of his overs in the powerplay, Cummins through the middle, and left-armers Unadkat and Natarajan finishing up in the death.
But their spin stocks are looking a bit weak at the moment, with Shahbaz Ahmed in particular not bowling well.
The left-hander has been in top-notch form this season. He has played some incredible knocks and has amassed a total of 177 runs in 5 matches. In his last three innings, Abhishek Sharma has scored 16, 37, and 29 runs. On a flat batting track and against an out-of-form RCB bowling attack, Abhishek Sharma will look to make the best use of his batting form and play a match-winning knock.

The surface here is excellent for batting and with the shorter boundaries square of the wicket, batsmen will get full value for their shots.
Bowlers need to have an X factor, just like Mayank Yadav who stunned RCB batsmen with raw pace, to have some kind of an impact on this wicket.
Weather-wise, the forecast is good and we should have a complete match with no interruption.

The match will be played at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. Both these teams haven’t met each other at a game here since 2019, but RCB leads the head to head record over SRH at this venue 5-2.
The average aggregate score in the last three IPL matches played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru is 352 runs. Unlike other venues, the pitches at Bengaluru have become better for batting. Both teams boast formidable batting lineups, and their bowlers have been struggling, conceding runs at a higher rate. With the short square boundaries and the quality of power hitters on both sides, expect a high-scoring game.
Chasing would be the go-to choice at the Chinnaswamy stadium where the boundaries are short and the outfield is lightning fast. KKR dismantled RCB’s brittle bowling attack to hurry to their target while chasing. And we guess we’ll be seeing a similar blueprint being used in this encounter.
SRH will fancy playing an all-out attacking game taking advantage of the dimensions and the batting-friendly pitch here and the poor form of RCB bowlers who’re low on confidence. SRH to win.
We are backing Sunrisers Hyderabad as winners of this contest.
