Sri Lanka A Women Preview

Sri Lanka A Women's team lost their opening match of the campaign in a closely fought match against the Bangladesh A Women's team. The Lankan team lost the match by 4 runs while in pursuit of 116 runs.

The target wasn't big, but Sri Lanka found themselves under a lot of pressure, finding it troubling to score runs and losing wickets early; afterwards, they couldn't recover.

After both the openers failed to put runs on the board, Hansima Karunaratne tried to stabilise the inning with a fighting 26 runs off 31 balls. But she didn't get enough support from the other end.

Lower down the order, Ama Kanchana and Sachini Nisansala gave their last efforts before finally the Sri Lankan side crumbled. For the Lankan team, only four batters were able to score in double digits, signalling a major struggle with the bat.

They did fairly well with the ball, managing to get the Bangladesh A side all out for 115 runs. Sachini Nisansala, with her left-arm orthodox spin bowling, troubled the Bangladesh batters and took advantage of the spin-friendly conditions. She took 4 wickets for 14 in her four-over spell.

Sri Lanka managed to keep it tight, with Malsha Shehani and Sathya Sandeepani both taking 2 wickets each. It was a brilliant display, as they didn't allow the Bangladeshi batters to free their arms and kept taking regular wickets.

Malaysia Women Preview

Malaysia Women suffered a 99-run defeat in their opening match of the campaign against the hosts, Thailand. Malaysia were chasing a target of 170 runs but could only score 70/8 in 20 overs.

In pursuit of the target, the Malaysian batting line-up collapsed early as they were reduced to 3 wickets for 4 runs in the powerplay itself. The top order of Ainna Hamizah Hashim, Wan Julia, and captain Mas Elysa all contributed in single digits. Against a strong team like Sri Lanka, it is important that the top order give a better start.

Ainna Hashim will bear the responsibility, having previously scored 125 runs in 5 matches in the Bhutan Women's Tri-Series earlier. She was the top scorer for the team.

Nur Natsya showed some fight with a gritty 15 runs, and Mahirah Izzati Ismail can help build partnerships. There will be a lot of responsibility on the two in the middle order while the likes of Nur Syafiqa and Aina Najwa add batting depth.

Earlier, Nur Natsya and Mahirah were the standouts with the ball as well. With the ball, the duo picked 2 wickets apiece, while Ainna Hamizah Hashim kept things steady with her medium-pace bowling. However, they allowed the Thailand middle order to control things, which eventually proved detrimental. They need to bowl tighter and stop giving away easy runs.

Malaysia Women Predicted Playing XI:

Ainna Hashim, Wan Julia, Mas Elysa (C), Mahirah Ismail, Nur Natsya, Nur Syafiqa, Aina Najwa (WK), Nur Syuhada, Irdina Beh Nabil, Amalin Sorfina, and Suabika Manivannan.

The pitch at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok is usually slow and grippy. Batters should take time early to get used to it and play safe shots. They need good control and take no big risks; one mistake can end the innings fast. The normal first-innings score is 120 to 150. Spinners enjoy bowling here, and fast bowlers must change their speed.

After four matches in this tournament, the first-innings average is 137. Thailand made the highest score of 169, while Malaysia Women got out for only 70.

Toss: To Bat

The team batting first has had an advantage at the venue. The pitch surface is slow and grippy, making chasing really difficult. Out of 4 matches played so far in the tournament, 3 matches have been won by the side batting first.

Sri Lanka A Women's team is the favourite to win this match. Malaysia is low on morale after losing by a significant margin against Thailand. Although Sri Lanka A lost their game, there was a lot of positivity, especially on the bowling side, given how Sachini Nisansala, Malsha Shehani and Sathya Sandeepani bowled in tighter line and length, giving no room. Despite the batting collapse, Sri Lanka do have superior squad strength, so back Sri Lanka A Women to win.
