St Kitts and Nevis Patriots began their season on a positive note, convincingly defeating Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. They held the Falcons to just 121 and then chased it down in 15 overs, finishing with six wickets in hand.
Evin Lewis struck 25 off 13 and Andre Fletcher made 19 from 26 to set things up, before Alick Athanaze’s unbeaten 37 from 28 balls and Jason Holder’s 18 not out from 14 guided them home.
Their batting unit runs deep, with Kyle Mayers adding further quality. Mayers impressed in last year’s CPL, scoring 268 runs in 10 innings and collecting seven wickets along the way. Fletcher is clearly the standout option after topping their run charts last season, scoring 318 runs from 10 games at a strike rate of 150. Rilee Rossouw’s calm approach and ability to maintain the tempo also makes him an important part of the order.
The bowlers were outstanding in the opener. Waqar Salamkheil took 4 for 22 in his four overs, while Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naseem Shah picked up two wickets apiece, both keeping things tight. Jason Holder’s experience adds extra stability to this attack.

Last season’s runners-up Guyana Amazon Warriors, have assembled another competitive squad for the new campaign. They topped the table in the previous CPL and came close to defending their crown before falling to Saint Lucia Kings by six wickets in the final.
The batting line-up will again be built around Shimron Hetmyer, who was the team’s top scorer last year with 402 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 185.25. His ability to lift the innings makes him a central figure in their plans.
Shai Hope will be another major asset. Fresh from a superb run against Pakistan at home, where he struck a century and a fifty, he will look to carry that form into the CPL. He was among the standout batters last season as well, and expectations are high.
Romario Shepherd and Shamarh Brooks add further strength to the order and give the Warriors plenty of options.
Saint Lucia Kings will be without left-arm wristspinner Noor Ahmad, who has chosen to play in the Hundred, while allrounder Matthew Forde is sidelined through injury. Even so, their spin unit remains formidable with Gudakesh Motie, Imran Tahir, and Moeen Ali all capable of exploiting this surface.
Jediah Blades is another name to follow. He can swing the new ball effectively and is equally comfortable working with the older one.

Evening matches at Warner Park in Basseterre often see the ball zip on, helping batters once they get in. The track tends to play slightly slow, so changes in pace and cutters become useful options. Spinners can extract turn during the middle stages, and certain shorter sides invite the aerial shot. Teams chasing may benefit from more settled conditions later.
Skies are expected to be partly cloudy, with a chance of thunderstorms in the evening that could interrupt proceedings.

Warner Park in Basseterre yields an average of 168 to teams batting first. Guyana Amazon Warriors posted the venue’s record of 266 for 7 against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots last season. Expect both sides to target totals close to 180 or 190 to push for a win in this game.
At Warner Park, teams batting second have won 47 of 86 T20 matches, including the CPL opener this year. Given that track record, the captain who calls the toss right will probably decide to field first in this contest.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have reason to feel upbeat after opening the season with a victory. Their next test is against Guyana Amazon Warriors, last year’s CPL runners-up. The Warriors have had the upper hand over the Patriots in recent seasons and are among the strongest contenders this year. Given their track record and depth, they look well set to win this encounter.
