Yorkshire Women Preview

Yorkshire Women head into this contest on the back of a six-wicket loss against Lancashire Women, as their winless streak this season continues and their losing streak extends to seven matches. This time, despite their batters putting a really good score on the board, it was their bowlers who couldn't defend it.

Batting first, Yorkshire Women posted a score of 160/7 in 20 overs on the back of Ami Campbell's blistering knock of 47 runs off 21 balls, where she smashed 4 fours and 4 sixes at the top of the order. Sterre Kalis (22 runs off 21 balls) and Beth Langston (18 runs off 20 balls) made useful contributions in the middle order.

Defending 161 runs, the Yorkshire bowlers were peppered early on by the Lancashire openers, who scored 74 runs in the first six overs and never allowed the Yorkshire bowlers to build any pressure in the middle overs. Jess Jonassen was the most economical bowler, finishing with figures of 1/14 in 3 overs, while Hannah Rainey, Claudie Cooper, and Jessica Woolston picked up one wicket each.

Yorkshire are out of the qualification race, but they still have milestones to play for as they look for their first win of the season and their first victory at their home ground at Headingley. They will be looking to put past performances behind them and outclass an in-form Somerset side.

A lot of Yorkshire's chances of winning will depend on their skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill, Jess Jonassen, Sarah Glenn, and Sterre Kalis. If these four players fire collectively, Yorkshire might well have a chance of pulling off an upset.

Somerset Women Preview

Somerset Women's last two matches haven't gone as expected, as they lost both games after the resumption of the tournament. First, they lost to Durham Women by six wickets, and in their last match, they suffered a two-wicket defeat at the hands of Surrey Women.

Against Surrey, batting first, Somerset managed to score 146/8 in 20 overs. Their openers, Rebecca Odgers (30 runs off 22 balls) and Sophie Luff (52 runs off 39 balls), provided a really good start, adding 56 runs in 5.4 overs for the first wicket. However, once this opening partnership was broken, the Somerset innings fell apart in the second half, where they scored only 63 runs and lost 8 wickets.

Despite having a low score on the board, the Somerset bowlers made the Surrey batters work really hard for their runs, even after Surrey got off to a flying start by scoring 53 runs in the first six overs. Maddie Russell (2/22) and Niamh Fiona Holland (3/22) controlled the middle-overs phase and brought Somerset back into the game, but it was too little, too late in the end, as Surrey chased down the target in 19.2 overs.

With this loss, Somerset's top-four spot is in jeopardy as they drop down to fifth place now. They will need to regroup and bounce back against Yorkshire Women. This is going to be a tough contest, as they are under a bit of pressure.

Somerset Women Predicted Playing XI:

The pitch at Headingley, Leeds offers a balanced track that favours both the batters and bowlers. The average 1st innings score in the last three matches played at this venue is 145 runs and only once in the last six innings a team has managed to score past 150 runs. Expect another balanced contest where a score of around 160 is a par score.

Score Prediction:

If Yorkshire Women Bat 1st: 135-150 runs
If Somerset Women Bat 1st: 145 -160 runs

Toss: To Bat

Teams batting first won two of the three Women's T20 Blast matches played at Headingley, Leeds this season. The conditions at this venue get tougher for batting as the match progresses and the team that wins the toss will look to bat first here.

Toss Prediction: Yorkshire Women to win the coin toss

Somerset Women enter this contest as the favorites to win. Having already defeated Yorkshire by 36 runs earlier in the season, they will look to replicate that performance in this fixture against an out-of-form, winless Yorkshire side.

With 4 crucial points up for grabs, Somerset will be more focused than ever as their qualification chances hang in the balance. We are backing Somerset Women to bounce back from their two-match losing streak and win this match.
