For the second week in succession, Manchester United have had a full week between matches in what must have been a huge boost to boss Erik ten Hag.

A rest will have been welcome to his overplayed stars, who have barely had three days between games since the World Cup ended in December.

They currently hold the cards in the race for the top four, and know that another victory here would be massive in their quest to claim a Champions League spot over historic rivals Liverpool.

Bournemouth’s quest to remain a Premier League team has been successful, with Gary O’Neil’s men achieving their goal with two games to spare.

It’s a great result for a team that sacked their manager four games in the season, have had to endure a takeover of the club and the trials and tribulations of their first season back in the big time.

O’Neil deserves plenty of credit – can he steer his team to a memorable result here?

AFC Bournemouth Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Won their last home game against Manchester United

Can play with a sense of freedom here

Reasons to be fearful:

Lost each of their last two matches

Lost eight of their 11 meetings with United in the top division

Bournemouth’s great success this season has been staying in the Premier League, with two games of the campaign remaining, while giant clubs like Leeds, Leicester and Everton battle it out for survival.

The Cherries have often saved their best performances for their travels this season, and would be 12th in the league based on away results, compared with 16th at the Vitality Stadium.

That said, Gary O’Neil knows that Manchester United come to the south coast needing to pick up three points, and his players will be fully motivated to stop that.

Like most home clubs this weekend, this will be their last chance to impress supporters this weekend, so they’ll want to give them a good send off.

Bournemouth’s record against United isn’t great, but they’ve pulled off some fine results this season.

Star Man – Dominic Solanke

At a time when United are pushing forward for three points, the pace and power of Solanke, alongside Billing and others, will be crucial.

Manchester United FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Marcus Rashford fit enough to return to the team

Two weeks of full rest will have benefitted fitness levels hugely

Reasons to be fearful

Claimed just eight points from nine away games in 2023

Any slip up will allow Liverpool in

Manchester United returned to winning form last weekend, seeing off Wolves in fairly comfortable fashion.

They were the dominant team at Old Trafford and you could tell the difference a full week between games made. Ten Hag’s men have had another one this week and he’ll be hoping for another solid performance.

The Red Devils simply can’t afford to slip up and allow Liverpool back in, although Jurgen Klopp’s men face a difficult game of their own, against in-form Aston Villa.

Here, Marcus Rashford should be fit enough to return after missing the Wolves game, while the manager has a choice to make between Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho, who scored after being substituted on last weekend.

United’s away form has been dismal at times this season and they could do with a vital win here.

Star Man – Marcus Rashford

Rashford will slot straight back into the team following his recovery. He needs one more goal to claim 30 for the season, with a joint-career best 17 of those coming in the league.

     Will Bournemouth sit back here?

     United’s fitness should be sharper

     Rashford should score or assist

While Bournemouth have their pride to play for here, after a long season the players may not have much juice left in the tank, especially having wrapped up survival already.

Manchester United will be the team pressing forward and, if they get the early goal, should put the home side under pressure here.
