The Premier League resumes once again after the recent round of international fixtures and what better way to start than with two heavyweights looking for one final push this season?

Manchester City still have Arsenal within their sights, although they realise they can’t afford to lose any more ground on their title rivals with only 11 games remaining.

Pep Guardiola has vast experience of winning trophy after trophy throughout his career and knows that it will take everything his team has to win the league this time around.

Liverpool secured a mammoth win over Manchester United two games ago, only to follow that up in disappointing fashion by losing both to Bournemouth in the league and Real Madrid in Europe.

Now, with just the top four left to play for, Liverpool know that they too cannot really afford any more slip ups. They have two games in hand over Spurs, although the Reds are seven points behind.

Manchester City FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Lost just one of their last 13 home games against Liverpool

Haaland has eight goals in his past two games

Reasons to be fearful:

Have lost twice to Liverpool already this season

Foden will miss out after an operation

As we head into the final stretch of the season, this is usually the time when Pep Guardiola’s teams put their foot to the floor and play at full throttle.

Even the manager will admit that it’s going to be tough to catch Arsenal this season, what with an eight-point gap currently between the teams.

Any slip-ups here would mean that the Gunners could move 11 points clear at the top, which feels like a mountain even City would struggle to climb.

Erling Haaland is touch-and-go in terms of his fitness here, having injured his groin before the international break. Phil Foden will definitely miss out after an operation to remove his appendix.

Star Man – Erling Haaland

If Haaland is fit enough to play any part in this game, then it will be for City’s benefit. With eight goals in his last two games, Haaland went into the international break on fire.

Liverpool FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Beat City in their first league game of the season

Luis Diaz could play a role after resuming training

Reasons to be fearful

     Facing a tough upcoming schedule

     Entered the international break disappointingly

After beating Manchester United in epic fashion, delivering a 7-0 thrashing, Liverpool would have felt good about going on a winning run and making a top four spot their own.

Instead, back-to-back defeats against Bournemouth in the league and Real Madrid in the Champions League means that the wind has been knocked out of their sails once more.

It leaves them seven points behind Tottenham in 4th, although they do have two games in hand. Lose this one, however, and their goal will look even further out of reach.

They have beaten City twice already this season, it can’t be forgotten – once in the league and also in the Community Shield. Can they claim a hattrick of victories here?

Star Man – Mo Salah

Has scored against City on three separate occasions already this season and remains Liverpool’s go-to guy in front of goal.

     Expect an engaging encounter

Haaland will bring huge advantage if he plays

Liverpool may have joy on the counter

In seasons gone by, it has been these two teams fighting it out neck-and-neck for the Premier League title.

While Liverpool aren’t quite there this time around, they can play a huge role in the title race, as well as their own top four destiny.

Much will be decided by whether Erling Haaland is fit enough to play, but either way Pep Guardiola will ensure his players know the importance of three points here.

Liverpool will want to bounce back from defeat before the international break, but there is arguably no harder place to do that than the Etihad.
