SHEFFIELD UNITED FC vs WEST BROMWICH ALBION FC Match Preview & Analysis

Sheffield United have shown much-improved form recently, earning two wins from their last five league games with the victory over Manchester United, in particular, causing a stir.

Even their defeat against Manchester City at the weekend was a different game to what many were expecting, with The Blades only going down by a single goal after a battling performance.

They do, however, remain 13 points off 17th place and safety, with Brighton winning their weekend match to make it even harder for the bottom three to catch them.

West Brom’s position is only slightly better off, a place and four points better off than their opponents this weekend. Their win over Wolves a couple of weeks ago was their best result in 10 matches, though have slipped back into their previous dismal form since.

A win is the only positive result for these sides here.

Sheffield United FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WLWWL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Were solid in defeat against Manchester City at the weekend

Three wins in past five games included morale-boosting Cup win

Reasons to be fearful:

Could become disheartened with 13-point gap to safety

West Brom will also be fighting for their lives

It’s a shame from a Sheffield United point of view that their season couldn’t have started in fashion which they are playing now.

They’ve been much-improved in recent weeks, securing league wins over Newcastle and Manchester United, earning an FA Cup win and giving Manchester City a run for their money, despite losing 1-0 in the end.

Here, Chris Wilder will know that only a win will do. A 13-point gap is a challenge they are unlikely to overcome as it is, but drop more points here and it will look even more improbable.

Topscorer David McGoldrick should come back into the starting line up having been rested for an hour against City.

Striker Rhian Brewster is likely to miss out, having gone 17 matches without a goal, while Stevens and Robinson are expected to miss out through injury.

Star Man – David McGoldrick

Was surely rested at the weekend with this game in mind. The Blades’ top scorer should be raring to go here.

West Bromwich Albion FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): LWLLD

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have fared better away from home recently

New signing Mbaye Diagne could be involved

Reasons to be fearful:

Grady Diangana is an injury concern

Sheffield United are in good form at the moment

West Brom will be looking to call upon their 1-0 win over Sheffield United earlier in the season here, although will be very aware of how the Blades have improved recently.

The Baggies have just one win from their last five fixtures, but that also came away from home against Wolves a few weeks ago, providing West Brom will an element of home here.

Grady Diangana, one of The Baggies best players this season, is likely to miss out here through injury, which will knock their chances although new signing Diagne could lead the line following his loan transfer from Turkish club Galatasaray.

Although relatively new at the club, Sam Allardyce is under huge pressure as manager and will already fear for his position if he is unable to close to gap to the teams above him.

Star Man – Costa Pereira

Now has eight goals in all competitions this season after netting in the 2-2 draw against Fulham.

SHEFFIELD UNITED FC vs WEST BROMWICH ALBION FC Winning Prediction

A huge match for both sides

The loser unlikely to recover this season

A close game with few chances

Although Sheffield United lost their last match against West Brom, The Blades are enjoying better form these days and will go into this one confident of securing a result.

A draw is no good to either side here, so both must go for the win, though it is likely to be tight at first with possession evenly shared.
