Rishabh Pant: A Rising Star in Test Cricket, According to Sourav Ganguly

BCCI and the selection committee have recently announced a 16-member squad for the Bangladesh series. India’s star wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant, will play his first Test after 2 years in Chennai.

Rishabh Pant met with an accident in December 2022. He was away from international cricket for more than a year but made his comeback in white-ball cricket this year.

However, Indian cricket is still waiting for his presence in the red-ball format. He is expected to be part of the playing XI in the first Test which is scheduled to take place on 19th September at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

One of the Indian cricket legends and former Indian captain - Sourav Ganguly, has recently expressed his views on Pant in a promotional event in Kolkata.

“I consider Rishabh Pant one of India’s best Test batsmen. I’m not surprised that he’s back in the side, and he will continue to play for India in Tests,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.

Ganguly also said that while Pant is a star in red-ball cricket, he needs to work hard on his batting in the limited-overs format.

Rishabh Pant’s last Test fixture was against Bangladesh in December 2022 at Mirpur. He will be making a comeback against the same team but this time it will be at home.

In Test cricket, Rishabh Pant made his debut in 2018 against England. Since then he has played 33 fixtures and currently his average stands at 43.67 with 2271 total runs.

ODI Cricket

Pant is a crucial member of Team India in ODI cricket. Since his debut in 2018 against West Indies, Pant has been part of 31 ODIs for team India and has an average of 33.50 with a total of 871 runs.

T20i Cricket

Since his comeback to Team India, Pant has majorly played T20 format. In the year 2024, Pant has been part of 10 T20 internationals. He has scored 222 runs at an average of 27.75 and a strike rate of 131.36.

Rishabh Pant Performance in Duleep Trophy

Rishabh Pant was recently seen in action during the ongoing Duleep Trophy. He is part of India B. In the first inning of India B against India A, Pant failed to make an impact and was sent back to the pavilion at a score of 7 runs.

However, in the 2nd innings of the match, Pant was in his old form and scored 61 off 47 balls at a strike rate of 129.79.

India is schooled to host Bangladesh for a 2-match Test series starting 19th September. With the return of some key players in the team, the online cricket betting sites have odds in favour of India.
