RR Team Preview - Can Rajasthan Royals Win IPL 2025

When the Indian Premier League made its debut on the Indian cricket ground in 2008, Rajasthan Royals came out as the winners of the first season. However, hardly anyone knew that the first season winners would fail to repeat their performance in the next 17 years.

Rajasthan Royals have been a strong team on multiple occasions, but they have always failed to lift the trophy on multiple occasions. They have reached the playoffs on 4 occasions and have been runner-ups once.

However, in recent years, under the captaincy of Sanju Samson, Rajasthan Royals have seen a sudden rise in their performance and they have always come out as the strong opposition. It is because of the same reason, Sanju Samson was retained by the team management, and they have shown trust in his leadership skills as well.

Before the beginning of IPL 2025 mega auction, the team management has also retained their key players who have been consistent in their performance from the past few seasons. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sandeep Sharma were the retained players and the rest of the team was built around them.

However, the release of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin came out as a big surprise to the Royal fans. In order to balance out their spin unit, the Royals signed Sri Lanka’s ace spinner Wanindu Hasaranga for a price tag of INR 5.25 Crore.

During the mega auctions, Jofra Archer came out as the most expensive player for the team with a price of INR 12.50 Crore. Maheesh Theekshana (Rs. 4.4 crore), Nitish Rana (Rs. 4.20 crore), Tushar Deshpande (Rs. 6.50 crore), and Fazalhaq Farooqi (Rs. 2 crore) were the other purchases for the team from the auction list.

South Africa’s newly elected ace pacer - Kwena Maphaka, is also part of the team and he will be expected to get more chances to play with Rajasthan Royals.

Rajasthan Royals finished 3rd in the previous edition of the league with 8 wins and 5 losses. Their net run rate stood at +0.273. They entered the playoffs and defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first playoff, but were eliminated by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2nd playoff. Overall, the team management will be hoping to reach the finals this year and end their trophy drought of 17 years.

Another strength for the Royals is their top order batting unit. He was the third highest run-scorer in the league last year. The presence of Nitish Rana in the batting unit might also give them an extra edge at number 4.

Rajasthan Royals are expected to use Shubham Dubey and Akash Madhwal as their impact players. Shubham Dubey is a middle order batter and a part-time spin bowler who can give the team an advantage during the middle order. He carries an immense experience of T20 domestic cricket and has proven records.

Akash Madhwal is a pacer who was part of Mumbai Indians in the previous edition. He has picked up 19 wickets in 13 IPL fixtures at an economy of 9.70. The Royals can use him as a 4th pace option during the tough situations.

Rajasthan Royals - Weakness

Something terribly went wrong for Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2025 mega auctions. The team management has failed to hire backup players for their key players. As the league proceeds and if their experienced players fail to perform, Rajasthan Royals might go through a nightmare for the rest of the league stage.

Another weakness for Rajasthan Royals is their pace attack. The team management will be primarily dependent on Jofra Archer for wickets, but they don’t have any other reliable options in the team. Archer has also not been as effective as he can be on the Indian pitches since his return from the injury. Fazalhaq Farooqi can be another option for the team, but he will take time to come into his true form.
