India and Pakistan go head-to-head this Sunday evening in Colombo for what promises to be a blockbuster 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup encounter. Both teams come into this game riding high on back-to-back victories and look in terrific form. India appear to have the advantage with a stronger batting lineup and a more versatile bowling attack. But Pakistan have always been capable of pulling off the unexpected when the stakes are highest, so this won't be a walk in the park. Expect plenty of drama and excitement!

India have made an impressive start to this T20 World Cup. They cruised past USA and Namibia in their first two matches, claiming the number one spot in Group A without breaking much of a sweat. But Pakistan will be a different proposition altogether. What makes things trickier is that India haven't taken the field in Colombo during this competition, which means their batting unit will need to adapt to unfamiliar conditions on the fly.
Abhishek Sharma sat out the previous fixture because of a stomach bug and there's no confirmation yet about his availability for this contest. If he can't make it, Sanju Samson will step into the XI. India would prefer to have Abhishek available for such an important fixture, given he can deliver a quick-fire 30 or 40 runs at around 150 strike rate and swing momentum India's way inside the powerplay.
Ishan Kishan's contribution could prove decisive as well. He has been batting brilliantly in recent times and is smashing the ball at 222 this year. He will go after Pakistan's pace attack and their slow bowlers, and should he get going, India will grab control of the match in a hurry.
Through the middle phase, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma have the responsibility of maintaining momentum, while the batting lineup features several big hitters down the order. Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel can all accelerate the scoring when the death overs arrive. Among them, Dube and Pandya are India's strongest options for taking on Pakistan's collection of spinners.
India's bowling unit has serious firepower. Jasprit Bumrah is hitting his straps nicely and will operate during the middle passage and at the death. Arshdeep Singh, however, has been struggling and has been expensive in every outing. India might consider bringing Kuldeep Yadav into the side instead of him for the Pakistan game on that sluggish surface, particularly because the left-arm wrist spinner has a solid record against them.
Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy give India depth in the spin department, with both capable of changing matches on their day. Hardik's slower deliveries also give the team a dependable sixth option with the ball.
Tilak Varma Total Runs Over 23.5 @ 1.85
Tilak Varma has recorded scores of 25 in each of his last two matches, getting off to solid starts but failing to convert them into significant innings. However, he is now set to face Pakistan—a side he has historically dominated under immense pressure. In the three T20Is he has played against them, he has amassed 130 runs at an average of 130 and a strike rate of nearly 130.
Ishan Kishan Total Runs Over 24.5 @ 1.85
Ishan Kishan smashed a quick fire half century (61 runs in 24 balls) against Namibia. He is having a time of his life with the bat this year where he has scored 296 runs in the last six matches for India, averaging 49.33 and has smashed over 50 runs in three matches. Given his current run of form, we back Kishan to fire on all cylinders in today's match and score over 24 runs.

Pakistan have been impressive in this T20 World Cup, stringing together consecutive victories to claim second place in Group A. After narrowly escaping against the Netherlands, they delivered a dominant 32-run victory over USA. They're operating as a unified team and will back themselves to challenge India strongly on this ground, where both their matches have taken place.
The top three batters, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, and Salman Agha, are in good form with the bat at the moment. Sahibzada was the pick of them in the previous match, smashing a brilliant 73 off 41 balls. He can go hard from ball one too, just like he did against India during the Asia Cup towards the end of last year, and will target 30 or more runs while maintaining a strike rate above 130 on this occasion.
Usman Khan and Babar Azam offer solidity in the middle section, bringing composure and accumulating runs as the innings develops. Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz take care of the death overs, launching into the bowlers late in the innings with powerful strokes and clean hitting. How this middle order performs against India's slow bowlers, particularly Varun, will determine the result of this contest.
Pakistan's spin bowling has done most of the work in their two victories, taking 13 of the 18 dismissals that the side has managed. Saim Ayub operates during the powerplay and has a talent for producing important wickets. When the middle phase starts, Abrar Ahmed, Nawaz, and Shadab become the main threats as their varied balls have caused problems for batsmen on this slow surface.
Usman Tariq is an X-Factor because of his unusual bowling action, and since India have never faced the spinner previously, he could become their primary tool to dismantle India's middle section.
Salman Ali Agha Total 6's Under 0.5 @ 1.90
The Pakistan skipper has not had a good World Cup so far, struggling to score runs and failing to clear the ropes. In the three matches he has played against India, Agha has managed only 28 runs and has smashed just one six—an average of less than 0.5 sixes per match. We predict another low-scoring outing for Ali Agha and expect his total sixes to be under 0.5.
Sahibzada Farhan Total Runs Over 20.5 @ 1.85
Sahibzada Farhan is having a strong tournament so far. He scored 73 runs in his last match against the USA, following a quick-fire knock of 47 runs against the Netherlands. He also boasts an impressive record against India, having scored 155 runs in three matches at an average of 51.67. Given his current form and past success against India, we predict Farhan will score over 20 runs in today's fixture.
Babar Azam Total Runs Over 20.5 @ 1.85
Babar Azam scored 46 runs in the last match against the USA, where he took time to kick-start his innings but made up for it in the end. In two of his last three matches, Babar has managed to score over 40 runs, which is a positive sign heading into today's clash against India—a side against whom he has scored 105 runs in five matches, averaging 26.25.

Expect moderate rain showers during the day with cloudier spells, and rain chances continuing into the evening — precipitation totals around ~25–27 mm are possible. Temperatures should be around 30–31 °C by late afternoon, with humidity relatively high. There’s a good chance of wet periods or showers lingering into the match window that could interrupt play.

The pitch at R Premadasa Stadium tends to favor scores in the 160-170 range, with conditions slowing as the game progresses. The highest total here in the last seven T20Is is 182-6 by Australia against Ireland in this T20 World Cup. Both sides will look to surpass 170 for a good shot at victory. If India’s batting clicks, though, 190 could be on the cards.
Total Sixes in Match Under 12.5 @ 1.75
The last two matches at R Premadasa stadium have produced a low six hitting matches because of the larger boundary dimensions and the slowness of the surface which ahs favoured the bowlers a touch. Both teams boast a quality bowling lineup and a more balanced surface is expected. So we predict a low six hitting match and the total sixes in the match to be under 13.
India to win the coin toss @ 1.90
We back India to win the coin toss in today's marquee match up against Pakistan at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Rain is in the forecast, so the toss-winning captain will likely choose to bowl first. Overcast skies favor seam bowlers, and if DLS comes into play, chasing becomes less complicated.
When India and Pakistan clash, expect fireworks, and this game should be no different. India enter this contest in good form after back-to-back victories. They also carry a psychological edge after beating Pakistan on three occasions during the Asia Cup last year, the final among them. And let’s not forget they have a remarkable 7-1 head-to-head T20 World Cup record against them.
That said, T20 cricket can flip on its head within a few overs of big hitting, so both teams have a genuine shot at winning. Pakistan arrive with five straight T20I wins under their belt, and their spin attack is firing right now, which could cause serious trouble for India's batters. They also know these Colombo conditions better than India do. Where Pakistan struggle is with the bat, looking shaky and at risk of wasting strong efforts from their bowlers. India have better batting options throughout their order and a solid bowling attack, so they get a slight advantage of 55-45 in what promises to be an intense battle.
We are backing India as the winners of this clash.
