India take on South Africa in the 10th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Warm-up Matches 2026 on Wednesday, 4th February. The venue for the match is the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, with the scheduled start time set for 7:00 PM IST.

These two sides last met in early December in a five-match T20I series, which India won 3–1, and they face off once again ahead of the World Cup. For memory, these are also the two teams that clashed in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, a late-surge thriller that India went on to win.

India Preview

The host nation, India, will officially don their World Cup jerseys for the first and only warm-up match they will play before their title defence begins on 7th February, when they take on the USA in their opening group game.

There have been plenty of positives, and the team dynamics have changed significantly with the arrival of Ishan Kishan in the New Zealand series. He smashed the Kiwi bowlers to all parts of the ground, scoring 215 runs in four matches, including one fifty and one hundred, at a staggering strike rate of 231.18.

The return to form of Suryakumar Yadav was equally encouraging, as he finished the series with 242 runs in five matches, averaging 80 and striking at 196.75. There is no shortage of firepower in this Indian batting lineup, with power hitters right through to number seven.

However, the biggest question mark is whether India will drop Sanju Samson after he failed to score runs throughout the series against New Zealand. With Axar Patel back from injury and Tilak Varma also returning to the squad, team combination and balance have become a major headache for the team management.

In the bowling department, three players have their places fixed in the starting XI, with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh as the primary pacers, and Varun Chakravarthy as the lead spinner.

Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube are expected to share the fifth bowler’s quota, while India may also try Abhishek Sharma for an over or two. Axar Patel will serve as the fourth bowling option, giving India a mix of four seamers and three spinners in this match.

India Predicted Playing XI:

Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah.

India Actual Playing XI:

Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Tilak Varma

South Africa Preview

South African players have enjoyed competitive game time in the SA20, where they have dealt with pressure situations and now look set for another push at the coveted T20 World Cup trophy after coming close to winning it last time around.

Ahead of this warm-up match, the Proteas won the T20I series against the West Indies 2–1. More than the result, they will be pleased with the way their batters handled the series, especially Quinton de Kock, who looks in beast mode at the moment. South Africa will hope he carries that form into the World Cup. Ryan Rickelton has also settled well into the number three role following his late inclusion in the squad.

David Miller, who had suffered an abductor injury, has recovered and passed his fitness test. He is likely to feature in this warm-up match to regain form and valuable game time, while the fixture also presents a big opportunity for Jason Smith to prove his worth as a power hitter.

In the bowling department, George Linde and Keshav Maharaj will lead the spin attack, with Aiden Markram providing a third spin option. The pace attack will be spearheaded by Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, with Corbin Bosch likely to be the third seamer and Marco Jansen expected to operate mainly in the powerplay.

South Africa Predicted Playing XI:

Quinton de Kock (wk), Aiden Markram (C), Ryan Rickelton, Dewald Brevis, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, George Linde, Lungi Ngidi

South Africa Actual Playing XI:

David Miller, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton, Dewald Brevis, Jason Smith, Tristan Stubbs, George Linde, Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, Kwena Maphaka, Lungi Ngidi

Weather Conditions

Wednesday’s weather in Navi Mumbai is expected to be hot and sunny, with temperatures touching 33°C. Low humidity and zero chance of rain should ensure uninterrupted play, while a light breeze may offer some relief in the evening.

The pitch at Dr Dy Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai favours the batters and is a high scoring ground. The average 1st innings score in Men's T20I's is around 180 runs, while 210-220 is a par score. Expect both teams to attack and we predict either of India or South Africa to score past 210 runs if they bat first.

Toss: To Bat

Under lights DY Patil is one of the best grounds to chase down target's but both teams will look to test their bowling lineups a bit and they might prefer to bat first.

Well it is going to be an even contest, but we are backing the home team India to win this contest.
