The Big Bash League continues to deliver top level cricket, year in year out, and this 2024/25 edition has been no different so far!
As in many other seasons, Sydney Sixers have set the pace and they are the only team with a 100% record at this stage of the tournament. At the other end of the table, it is Melbourne Stars in familiar territory with five defeats from five games.
So far in this campaign, it appears that Adelaide Strikers have a bit of a hangover following their exit in the Challenger last season but coming up against the Scorchers, who they got the better of in two out of the three head to heads last year, could be the perfect opponents!
The Adelaide Oval will be under lights with plenty of new year's eve parties taking place and this promises to be an entertaining clash.

Adelaide Strikers were set an imposing target of 215 to beat the Hobart Hurricanes at the Adelaide Oval on December 27th and they came up just short, losing by 11 runs in Match 13.
On an excellent batting track, it was hard work for the bowlers with everyone in the Strikers' bowling attack going at over 10 runs per over apart from England international Jamie Overton who was particularly impressive and returned figures of 2/27 from his four overs.
We expect another tough evening for the bowlers but Adelaide's batters will be licking their lips at the prospect of batting again on this surface. The two Shorts, Matthew and D'Arcy at the top of the order, alongside Chris Lynn at number three, will provide the bulk of the top order runs.
Darcy Short is averaging 1.33 sixes per game this BBL season, where he has smashed two sixes each in two of the three matches played. The left hander will look to provide fast starts to the Strikers and we back him to hit over 0.5 sixes in this fixture.
After a string of low scores, Matthew Short returned to form with a blistering half-century in his last outing at the Adelaide Oval, where he scored 52 runs against the Hurricanes. He has a phenomenal record at Adelaide, scoring 1140 runs at an average of 38 runs per game, while against the Scorchers he averages 31 runs per game.

There have been two standout players for Perth Scorchers so far in this campaign with Cooper Connolly impressing with the bat at number three and tall left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff producing consistent figures with the new ball across the four games.
With the ball, Behrendorff has been well backed up by Lance Morris, Matthew Kelly, Ashton Agar and Andrew Tye but they are all likely to have their work cut out on this fine batting track in Adelaide!
With the bat, Connolly has been very consistent but maybe that is due to him coming to the crease during the opening over due to Finn Allen's awful form at the top of the order. The experienced duo of Ashton Turner and Nick Hobson are two other reliable figures in the middle order for Perth Scorchers ahead of this game.
The young left hander has scored 37,66, 14 & 64 runs in the four matches he has played this season, where he has scored over 20 runs in three matches. With the southpaw in good form expect another impactful knock against the Strikers and score over 20.5 runs.
Turner has scores of 22, 8, 39, and 37 runs in the four matches played this season. He has been the most consistent batter in the middle order for the Scorchers. Against the Strikers, he has scored 22 runs per innings. Given his current form, we back Turner to score over 15.5 runs against the Strikers.

The weather is rarely disappointing in Adelaide at this time of year and this game should be played in temperatures of 26 degrees or more even though it is an evening fixture! There will be no rain across the match.

Average TurnThe pitch at the Adelaide Oval is not the fastest in Australia but it still provides consistent pace and bounce. As a result, there will be plenty of opportunities to make big scores and a par score will be at least 220.
The Scorchers holds an upperhand with 16 coin toss wins over the Adelaide Strikers. For this game, we back the luck to be on the Scorchers side and win the coin toss.
The last match played at the Adelaide Oval was a high scoring one, where the total match score was 417 runs. The surface at Adelaide favours the batters and the short square boundaries further plays into the hands of the batters. Both Adelaide and Perth's batters are in top form and we predict another high scoring game in this fixture.
With the pitch likely to encourage stroke-making, both teams will want to chase in the second innings of the game! There could also be some assistance for the quicks in the opening overs of the match so we are backing both captains to want to bowl first.
This should be an excellent contest between two strong sides on New Year's Eve! Adelaide Strikers have home advantage but it is Perth Scorchers who have players in stronger form. We are predicting a close, high-scoring contest, with Perth Scorchers coming out on top.
